A bit upsetting that no one has actually read this post rather than react instinctively to the topic. I don't recall voicing an opinion on whether we would stay up, let alone say we would go down. The intention of the thread was to get a new perspective and stop some of the bickering but clearly sniping is endemic here. And, by the way, practise is the verb, not practice.
A very good friend of mine was the finance director of one of the so called yo yo clubs. From a financial point of view the best outcome was to get into the play offs and then the final and lose. You had the revenue from the play offs and you didn't have to pay the players more money for getting promoted and buying players you could not afford in order to have a chance of survival. You probably would sell a couple of your best players which you could probably replace at reasonable cost with players from your league who thought you would have a fair chance of promotion so your squad would not be too weakened. If you performed as hoped and headed for the play offs again you would have a pretty full stadium as fans like to watch a winning team and importantly a well run financially sound club. This of course is not the way fans would like to see a club run as their aim is for promotion as was the club in question but sometimes the financial realities are worth a thought
I hear, I obey. We will not go down...we have shown enough in our first four games and our new signings have shown enough that we are not one of the worst teams. In absentia luci, tenebrae vincunt...
Same here, but I decided to use the appliances that were put into it. EDIT: Just looked at the OP's thread title afresh and have decided that the best advice I can give spacedsaint is that he should ask his Mum or Dad if he can stay up. That should sort things out for him [or her maybe]. I would toddle off up that wooden hill by 10pm anyway. Don't want to case an upset on a Sunday evening. School tomorrow and all that.
True! Even though I'm a man, I fully agree with you. Women and children are by far the best type of fans that a club can have. Most men resort to violence and shouting at football matches and don't use their brains enough. I'd love it if there were more women attending football matches than there are now, even though there are more and more women watching football matches than ever before.
We've got more than enough to stay up in this division. Players like Clyne, Yoshida, Ramirez, JWP, Lallana, Lambert, Schneiderlin... these are all quality players.
As for the original thread topic, although I did not realise conversations had to be so rigid, there are some plus points about being outside the top flight such as the cheaper prices, friendlier fans & everyone can beat everyone else.Saints may be stable enough to suffer relegation without imploding, however the Championship is a lottery & momentum takes you a long way.I know the promotion king Adkins would be the best man to return us should the worst happen.
Is this the thread that reading forgot? I didn't ask whether we would stay up. I'm glad people think we will. I hope we will too. The question was, at its heart, about whether we would should just enjoy the ride and stop worrying one way or the other. It's also amusing that we all say we enjoyed League 1 and the Championship but are now physically repulsed and offended at the thought that possibly we may go back down (may means it is a possibility, just so you understand). Is it always so frustrating posting something here. It looked increasingly bad reading it... but I never quite realised the willingness to ignore the stated topic in facour of the empty rhetoric.
