When we were down in division four, I always held the view that one day, we could play in the top flight, usually to howls of derision. But my reason for believing this was blindingly obvious. We were a big City and there were a lot of football fans, (even if they didn't follow Hull City).
I knew that if an owner had the money to invest and was serious about making us a successful club, it could be done.
Now fans of clubs like Bury, don't have that hope, but they'll follow their team regardless. The term 'real fan' get's used too often on these pages for my liking. But for the likes of Bury, Scunthorpe and Torquay fans who turn out on those wet cold Tuesday nights, 'real fans' is an apt description.

I agree with that sentiment 100% - the lads n lasses who go religiously to the likes of Bury, Macclesfied, Stockport, Accrington etc etc because ''that's where they come from'' are brilliant, it's nice to see community clubs doing ok in the shadows of the Manchester and liverpool ''giants''.
We've spent more of our history in the second tier than we have at any other level.

The piece I was referring to olm, was what I put in an earlier post ie. "We've spent more time at the level Bury are at and below than were we've been for the last 5 or 6 years" I probably didn't explain myself very clearly though.

At the KC Scunny scored in the last few minutes just after James Harper had missed an open goal . That defeat left us close to the bottom of the Championship , how times change . We battered them at their place , they got relegated and we just missed a playoff spot .
17 years ago we were more than half a dozen points adrift in 92nd place. we've had as many winding-up orders against us as anyone, especially in the 1990s.burnley and swansea have come close to dropping out of the league in the last 20 years. all three have since reached the premier league. better times may be just around the corner.
I haven't seen it on a replay but a few seconds before the offside goal I recall there was a glaring handball by a shaker not punished by the referee. I couldn't see myself if the goal was offside but the penalty looked a definite penalty from where I was sat.
No-one seems to have mentioned the embarrassment of the idiots, who really should not be called supporters, kicking off before the game. I thought the mindless imbeciles were left in the 1980's. It reminded me of the scum from Millwall who came and ripped our seats out in an FA cup match a few years ago. Bury really are a friendly down to earth club, why did they feel they needed to have a go? I don't want to be associated with those morons and I hope any arrested receive a life ban.
