Diame or Boyd?

I think all three replacements were better players
I don't think they have been used or motivated very well recently hence people thinking they aren't better
The only way to know would be to put them all at the same club at the same time and see who starts, formation notwithstanding I think it would mostly be the three we have now

You said every player we moved on we improved on which isn't the case, so what if we didn't buy a replacement. Ince and Ramirez performances this season are damning indictments on Bruces coaching and tactics

Ramirez is playing a division lower this season than he was with us.

Odubajo, Taylor, Maloney, Diomande, Akpom = play offs or slight chance of autos.

Rosy kept on and Barton (free) and Gray in = Champions.

Either Diame isn't fully fit and Bruce is an idiot playing him despite that, or he can't really be arsed and Bruce is an idiot playing him.

When we sold Boyd, and brought Diame in, most of us, and me included saw it as a phenomenal piece of business, basically swapping Boyd for Diame, and his early form in the Premier League certainly backed it up as a great move.

With the benefit of hindsight now, I think i'd much rather have had Boyd than Diame this season, so what's other's thoughts?

Can also apply this to Dave vs Rosenior and Quinn vs Clucas

Personally, i'd rather have Dave and Rosenior rather than one or the other, Rosey at left back last night would've been a welcome break for Robo and I think Dave has been a good player for us this year.

Quinn vs Clucas is a harder one, he's on a poor run at the moment, but I think Clucas has been an improvement on Quinn, though i'd rather have Quinn than Maloney or Powell

Diame over Boyd.
Robbo over Rosenior (or RoseNOIR as some call him).
Muffin the Mule over McShame.

But that's the point, a footballer is only as good as he actually performs. You can't keep saying 'they're better but they're not playing better' before you come to the conclusion that they aren't better.

The simple facts are Diame hasn't been as good this season as Boyd was in the promotion season, Dawson's not performed as well as Davies or indeed Faye did and Abel was good for 3 max months. A good player has to do it 80-90% of the time at any level so the logical conclusion therefore is they're not as good as we think / we're told they are.

I think that's very harsh on Dawson. And Davies didn't play in the promotion season. Well not for us anyway.

Clucas is better than Quinn - End of story. I liked Quinn, but he has been replaced by a better player.

Rosenior is the player I would most liked to have kept, as we wouldn't have needed Dave then that would have freed up £3.5m to put towards a striker, which we desperately needed.

Akpom, Dusan, Taylor, Powell, Maloney, Diomande with hindsight all completely pointless signings that have drained our transfer budget.

Our transfer policy over numerous Windows has been appalling. We have signed some complete ****e - Diomande for one.

As Bruce continually states that goals win games, why has he failed to address this area? Yet he has managed to sign more deadwood and players that can't make the bench or even the starting 11.

I'll ask again, what is it from a handful of minutes that has made people think Dio is ****? A **** cup game or a few minutes?

He needs a better run in the team before he's written off.

Maybe you are right, I don't know or see him train every day so cannot comment,
What I would ask though is why when we are so short of goals and out and out strikers are in short supply at the club he is getting no game time.
i could suggest it's down to his age or lack of experience but I'm sure he's in his mid 20s.

He's 25. He's got a better goal scoring record than Akpom yet he's not even in the match day squad. I don't know why he isn't featuring, Bruce said he was doing OK in training as well. Did we really need Maguire AND Bruce Jnr on the bench yesterday?

Could really do with a physical striker almost how like simpson played in 12/13 albeit not scoring many goals. Someone who's agressive and holds the ball up while working hard for the team's benefit. None of the current strikers do this. Would've loved to have seen Jelavić stay this season that was almost out of Bruce's hands however.

In general feel the team of 12/13 was much more of a team, and seemed to fight more for one another. Feel the current team isn't chasing it enough more expecting it.

Can still do this through automatics or playoffs. COYH

It's hard to argue that any of the players that are in the squad now are worse than the ones that got us promoted. Players like Diame, Hernandez, Dawson and Robertson are light years ahead of the players we had going up the first time.

I honestly don't know why this team aren't performing to their expectations, I have a feeling it has something to do with the management because the likes of Rosenior, Quinn and Macca weren't world beaters but they knew this league and they knew how to dig in. But they just didn't want to stay.

I was really hoping to see Dawson step out last night and get the boys fired up, but he doesn't seem to bawl and shout much for a captain. He does his job fine, but there's no getting the lads going or screaming at midfielders. It's McGregor that does all that and he's the ****ing goalkeeper.

We need to get a midfield enforcer, which is why we should've gone for Sam Morsy from Chesterfield, he's doing really well at Wigan. I'd look at Michael Bostwick at Posh, he's a ****ing monster. He's also the captain there and they reckon he's off this Summer for bigger things.

Rosenior and Macca wanted to stay.

He has the first touch of a sledge hammer. The fact he has only scored one goal, which if we're honest was a complete accident as he knew nothing about it.

The fact we are DESPERATE for goals, yet he as a striker never gets a start, he simply looks out of his depth in English football.

Like an Englishman wearing a summer jacket in a country with a winter climate <laugh>

Spot on. Ramirez looked weak and a fish out of water with us but has become a key performer and goal threat under a new manager at Boro. Ince left because of a massive contractual screw-up for which Bruce bears a major share of the blame, depriving us of a desperately needed creative attacking threat from mid-field. Boyd has been a virtual ever present since he went to Burnley, and his energy and two-way effectiveness have been vital to their success. I for one would have him on the team sheet over the gifted but unpredictable Diame any day.

To be honest, Burnley thinks Boyd has been one of their worst this season.

Completely agree. City fans tend to think a striker just needs to score whatever the arbitrary number of goals is to be considered good enough. Simpson was excellent for us that season but got a lot of stick. He didn't give the defences the easy ride they get playing against Hernandez and Diame.
