NSF. Firstly let me say what a b*stard of a question. Virtually impossible to answer. Whatever I say today may not be the same tomorrow. On top of that you hear a song you have never heard for years and it becomes an instant download. The last 2 for me yesterday were Year of The Cat by Al Stewart & Miracles by Jefferson Starship.

1 - Nantucket Sleighride - Mountain. Live 17 minute version.
2 - The Bluest Blues - Alvin Lee
3 - So many roads - Joe Bonamassa
4 - Burlesque - Family
5 - Powderfinger - Neil Young
6 - Easter Parade - The Faith brothers
7 - Rainclouds - Beckett
8 - Aqualung - Jethro Tull.

Has as already been stated hard to believe no Pink Floyd.

Would have been easier doing a top 100 in all honesty.

Desperado- eagles or linda ronstatd
Running to stand still-u2
Living thing-elo
All the young dudes -bowie
Hallelujah-jeff Buckley
In my life- bette middler version
Nightswimming- rem
Band played waltzing matilda - pougues

Too many others too mention some great other choices in other posts
I love Linda Ronstatd's version of Desperado

On the basis that if I'm on a desert island, I'll either want to cheer myself up or psyche myself up, it would have to be-

1. Minor Swing- Diango Rheinhardt
2. Hate to Say I Told You So- The Hives
3. The Chain- Fleetwood Mac
4. Acquiesce- Oasis
5. Beautiful Day- The Levellers
6. Intergalactic- Beastie Boys
7. You Shook Me All Night Long- AC/DC
8. Toccata in Dm- Toy Dolls version

Going Underground- the Jam
Alison- Elvis Costello
A Wink and a Smile- Harry Connick jr:emoticon-0152-heart
Mr Blue Sky- ELO
Goodbye Girl - Squeeze
Valerie - Amy Winehouse
Apron Strings - Everything but the Girl
I’ll Sail this Ship Alone- Beautiful South

Just saw ELO on Friday, I could have had 8 of their songs :emoticon-0140-rofl:
Being limited to eight songs in this day and age is ridiculous. How do we know streaming isn't available on this desert island? Has anyone checked?

I think you are right. I only did mine this morning and already want to change it...

I could have 8 different top 8's for which I'm truly grateful.

I love music so much and it's constantly in my life. Everything from childhood memories, to rebellious youth and mellow old age is a real joy. I've lived through the start of Rock & Roll, through Punk and now new bands finding things that have never been done before.

I despair at people who just listen to whatever dreary shyte they hear Sara Cox trot out or stick with whatever was playing when they were eighteen and never give anything else a chance. But tbf that's being judgemental and people's musical choice should always be respected, however lame it seems to be.

Music is such a force for feeling good. I cant imagine not having something to listen too.

I love so many genres, and I am happy with that. I like to try new styles too. Always happy when I hear something new that gets my foot tapping. Up until a couple of years ago I wasnt in to punk, then went with mates to watch Stiff Little Fingers and thought they were brilliant. Happy to say I now enjoy the punk sound. Always something new in music.

really really really hard to nail 8 and I think it could change within a few hours because of mood, I’ve mixed up eras (ie where I was living and what I was doing and styles of music to get to this 8

I Wish - Stevie Wonder
I can’t go for that - Hall and Oates
Burn Down This Place - Natty
Hazey Jane 1 - Nick Drake
Over the Hill - John Martyn
Get innocuous - LCD Soundsystem
A message to to You Rudy - Specials
Spellbound - Rae and Christian

Punk was probably the last true music revolution that encompassed a truly new sound, fashion, attitude and beliefs. Sadly it was overshadowed by the Sex Pistols who were good, in their own way, but inferior to many bands who were more highly regarded by the Punks and whose music lives on.

Here's a perfect punk/pop song that sounds as good today as it did almost 50 years ago ...

... is there anything better in the charts now, I doubt it.
