Good post, and your follow up to saff... I'm seeing likenesses in Huw and how the bbc may have failed in supporting him.
Lets hope he gets the help he needs, wasnt a nice thing to watch, I thought he was a bit of a prat if I am honest prior to all this coming out. He was a cracking player he is still young enough but once the downward spiral starts it is hard to recover. Many footballers have gone the same way, I think the amount of money they get at such a young age and social media is more of a hinderance than we all think.
Got nothing against being critical of players performance on the pitch, it's the malice that sometimes accompanies it I don't always get and the assumptions that are sometimes made e.g- he's ****e because his attitude stinks, he's a spoilt brat, money gone to his head and whatever else people come up with. Sometimes players give us other reasons to make reasonable assumptions, sometimes they don't.
Ah these players filthy rich and still need molly coddling, lets use football for politics etc what a joke. the Ukraine people need real help more than footballers.
The bloke was abused as a child and has clearly never dealt with that, but yeah he is rich so get over it! Mentioning Ukraine is just ****ing odd aswell! As far as I can see Dele isn't asking for help or sympathy he is highlighting what he has struggled with in a cathartic way is sharing it with us all.
Yeah its tricky, are they pulling the I am mentally insane, so I am not responsible for my actions so cannot be given the electric chair for the murders I committed. Or do I have to go to trial for allegedly hitting my boyfriend, whilst being subjected to a horrendous feeding frenzy by the media, which is so bad and being myself a little fragile, I cannot take it, so I kill myself. Its as if the paparazzi would ever car chase after a celebrity into a tunnel.
Don’t think being rich helps in the slightest. Being in the public eye and having to deal with newspaper articles is one thing. Over the last decade the intense amount of scrutiny from social media must be so hard to deal with even for the most well adjusted of players. For Deli with his own demons it must be horrendous. They say it takes 10 positive comments to balance out a negative. While I’d love to see him back to his best I’d settle for the lad just to be happy. Hope he’s taken a big step in the right direction.
Had to take you off ignore to see what you posted. What an absolute prick you are. Unless you've been in his position, you know nothing of what he's been through, and still going through. Money doesn't come into it, the imotional impact this as had on him, is awful. The worst part for him is the guilt he will have felt, even though he shouldn't feel like that.
I never thought he was as good as the media made out. I thought (and still think) he could have been and he was making his way there. I slagged the lad off ant every opportunity too as his hype appeared to grant him an immunity from criticism. Media hype has probably helped him along in this horrendous journey he’s found himself on. Good on him for speaking like this. Hopefully he’ll get what he needs.
Not sure if you got that it was sarcasm from me. But it must be horesndous to have your own demons due to very traumatic events which start to effect your job which is in the public eye then get slated for that. He even mentions how the documentary didn't show that Jose apologised for calling him lazy which ties in with Grayson for one saying our one film his reaction to things and him looking dour was because he had been sacked 3 months before! Hold my hands up and say this interview has made me take another look at how I think of players and think actually they are people and they could have real world problems effecting them that we may not know about and won't know about unless they want us to.
I get sacked in by it too often. Did you see his post on the LutonGround thread. Saying poorly run club cause certain teams are above us? Anyone else I would think they meant in the past but Monty I know he means now cause we haven't signed Mbappe!
WTF is going on with this thread People are talking about a media feeding frenzy and comparing him to Princess Di ... ... he's barely been mentioned by the media, there's no articles attacking him and Everton have had a relegation battle, huge financial problems and a half built stadium to finish. His form dropped and Spurs let him go to Everton where everyone's form dropped ... ... it's really no big deal to anyone, surely the media can't be blamed for everything.
I think he was talking about what has happened to other celebrities not really Dele? I think most on here are talking about how us as fans judge players! We never think about what other things they might have happening in their life as they are very well played and have a life we would nearly all want! Don't think many have actually mentioned the media, most are probably like me and have no idea what the media may or may not have said about Dele but he mentions it and says they were saying stuff about him that wasn't true!
Just my honest opinion mate, which won't be popular, but here goes. I don't really want to know about the private lives of football players, musicians, comedians, etc. I love football and all kinds of other entertainers but don't need to know about every aspect of their private and family lives. I don't want to hear about their political views, how long they've been in rehab or how unfair the manager's been. I really don't think the mental health rehab clinic would've said 'right we've done everything we can, you're a lot better ... now the best thing to do is put yourself under the spotlight and have everyone talking about you.' My own, some will say selfish, opinion is that I want to believe in the image of stars. My motto has ways been 'entertain me and f**k off'. Football, films, music is supposed to be a diversion and distraction from real life, not a reflection of it imo. Will any of this interview really help anyone stop drinking, get off a pill addiction or go to rehab ... ... not a chance in my opinion and I don't think it'll help Dele either.
Something in this mind. They could all take a leaf out of Shane Warne's book. Early nineties and Australia are touring ( I think) India. Warne is the biggest name in the game. A billion people watch cricket in India alone the say, so he's up for the presser and gets asked a question regarding the geo political situation in Asia at the time, which is always pretty hot. " Look mate, I just play cricket. I bowl, bat a bit and field. Let's talk about that eh?" I've paraphrased a bit, but if all these famous people stuck to that approach, most would be prefer it. As for Deli. Good luck to him. Maybe he'll play again, but just look forward to your life is what I'd tell him.
