Very sad news

A Hull rugby club has paid tribute to one of its young players who passed away just days after Christmas.

Billy Hardy, 27, died suddenly at home on Saturday, December 28.

It is understood Billy returned home from the gym feeling unwell before he died.

Rugby player Billy, from Pocklington, made his name playing for Pocklington RUFC before joining Hull Ionians in the summer of 2018.

Both clubs have paid tribute to him.

Billy played for Ionians on December 21 and has been credited as playing an important role in the club being crowned champions of the National 2 North last season.

A minutes silence will be observed during the club's game at home against Chinnor on Saturday, January 4.

Club secretary Chris Taylor said in an emotional statement: "It is with the deepest sadness and regret that the club must announce the passing of Billy Hardy.

"Billy was only in his second season at the club but during that short time Billy had established himself as an important and most popular member of our 1st XV playing squad.
