Sorry, I realise it's not a joking matter. I think sometimes we're all guilty of forgetting that being in the public eye doesn't give you some magic deflector shield from insults and perceived failure, it can in fact give a magnifier for them.
Full credit to the players and people brave enough to own up to it. I just hope it remains genuine folk that come out to help others instead of some luvvies in search of limelight.

It will be an interesting read, I truly hope he feels better soon, I know from personal experience what a bitch depression can be.
Depression is a strange subject. A lot of people mix up been miserable and down with depression. It really is one of those things were you need to have had experience with it to understand it. It's great that the general public and media are taking it more seriously but I do feel like people are just jumping on the bandwagon.

Very sad but i shall wait and read the article before any further comment. That programme on thursday with Freddie Flintoft on depression within sport was very interesting. Its on the BBC iplayer for a week.
Some sad news to be printed in tomorrows papers about Deano. Rumours are he tried to commit suicide twice and it is connected to depression. Apparently it will be printed in The People.

I hope the article is written in a sympathetic light and not grossly sensationalised. I think Deano should be praised for speaking about his problems so openly. I remember him being on Daybreak about adult bed wetting too

Deano's always been a fella to wear his heart on his sleeve. Packing in a playing career with no other prospects must be a terrible feeling. He needs to understand that for the people of his home city he'll always be a very much loved legend!

Yes Deano is apparenlty joining the tony adams sporting clinic this week as he struggles to come to terms with life after football.

It'll be a long hard road for Deano, but with lots of support he will get there. Really harrowing to read. Hats off to the man for speaking about it. Is now and always will be up there with the biggest City legends.
Dean Windass has admitted he recently attempted suicide after battling with depression after the end of his playing career.
Windass, who fired hometown club Hull into the Premier League with a stunning winner in the 2008 play-off final, ended his playing days last year at the age of 42.
He has also worked as a television pundit but the well-travelled striker has revealed to The People the extent of his problems.
He told the newspaper: "I have cried every day for the last two years since retiring. People outside football think we have it all. But I was in a hole that I honestly didn't know how to get out of.
"Just over a week ago I hit rock-bottom and decided to end it all.
"I first took an overdose and when that didn't work tried to hang myself. I felt so alone and believed I had nothing to live for.
"I need to sort myself out which is why I'm speaking out now.
He added: "People have this image of me as this big strong man who can take anything life throws at him. But I'm not ashamed to say I wanted to end it after a string of setbacks."
"I knew I'd been a fool but I couldn't shake off the depression at feeling what a failure I'd become."
Windass, whose previous teams include Aberdeen, Bradford, Middlesbrough and Sheffield United, called on the Professional Footballers' Association to do everything in its power to help people with similar problems in the future
"We're not the brightest but you play football all your life," he said.
"There are hundreds of footballers in the same boat (after retirement). There is nothing to get up for in the morning.
"The Professional Footballers' Association or the governing body need to help us."

I would hope that if Deano does manage to kick this and come out the other end of this horrible disease, that he can get a role within the club. Even if Nicky doesn't want him on the coaching side which tbh is totally down to NB and we should have no say on that. We must be able to find him a role behind the scenes, look at the work Justin Whittle does now and again with the club. I know its not what he wants ultimately but whilst he finds another coaching role a little something with his hometown club must be worth a go?
