I think you will find they mean a short career to earn a wedge but probably 75% of footballers earn a fortune without even playing!

I reckon if Jack Rodwell ever gets a bit of telly time after his career is finished (officially I mean, not in the way it has been finished since his transfer to Man City), he will pull out the I wish I was still playing line. I mean the same bloke did that article about getting in the England squad and making his son proud ****e.

It would be great if the game stopped paying these kids for the first hint of making it big, well at least atop paying them enough that they can down tools and not be arsed. I realise that is hard as other teams will always nip in and offer them more, so the least clubs need to do is stop paying them big money cause they showed potential years ago. We did it with Rodwell and Wilshire was on £100k a week at West Ham when it was obvious to anyone his attitude was preventing him from fulfilling his early potential.

And the problem is there's a lot of Jack Rodwell's stealing a living higher up the leagues. Footballer's nowadays have far too much power, and have clubs over a barrel. That has to change, or football will self-destruct.

from danny graham to an argument about mgeady...danny graham is not showing anyone that he is actually bothered about playing/keeping fit/scoring which leaves us with the conclusion that he looked at another nice little earner before hanging up his boots. (change my mind, danny)

mgeady...lots of 'he said, she said' and people making up thier own minds...i do not think there is a right or wrong thought to this as we have not had 100% full on info from many sources, but what i DO know is that he is the most skilful player at the club who has himself stated he wants to play football, sunderland AFC are still paying his wages (which will not be insignificant i dare say) and no one has been killed...unless someone can come out with some concrete proof or several players decide to come forward with more of this 'bully boy' stuff then parky should swallow his dummy and get him in the team, if the rest of the lads have declared they do not want to play with him in the team then have the balls to say it and stop further speculation.

rodwell was/is a classic example of 'modern day footballer power'...the bosman(?) ruling which changed the way players had to be dealt with was, and i said it at the time, the biggest mistake in recent days...along with the now prolific blood sucking agents and the wealth poured into the game by the dictatorship that is television the game is bordering on ruin in my eyes, players have zero loyalty except to the $$$$$ signs and if slightly unhappy they down tools, do the minimum required and take the huge wages...rodwell took it to the extreme and made a career out of never actually being 'that' good but picking up a massive wage while doing the bare minimum required...had that happened to say liverpool the press would have been all over it with possible calls for change, as it was only little sunderland, no one gave a ****.

...and yes, i understand it was 'not his fault' we gave him the wage and contract but did he honestly have to sit and do feck all rather than do the 'decent thing' for his career and that england place he felt he deserved of mutually agreeing to end his contract leaving him free to sign for a premier league club? ...(or maybe it was the lack of any attention that caused him to sit tight?)

So far, since he left us, Chodwell has made one league appearance for the blades, making a total of 2 passes, one clearance and losing his only aerial challenge.

.......and been paid enough in that time to keep every food bank in the country going. It's good work if you can get it, so I don't blame him. It's the clubs that he's taking for a ride.

was that the sub appearance?...i watched that and noticed his trade mark 'hiding in plain sight' ability was in full flow

The only stories about di Canio being mentally disturbed came from the bunch of slackers who he'd asked to eat, train and behave like professional football players.

Sunderland was, and still is, a rest home for 'the lads' taking money out of our pockets, taking the chance for a cushy number and taking the piss out of the supporters.

The day that we gave in to that group of players, when they went crying to matron, was the day that we lost control.

It's always been a mystery to me why football club owners would pay millions of pounds for a player, and then enter into a contract with him to pay him more millions of pounds, without any recourse in the event of non-performance of the skills for which the player was purchased.
How non-performance doesn't trigger a breach of contract I'll never understand.

I've always said that every footballer should be paid for performance (unless injured of course). Not only would it make financial sense, it would make games much better to watch too!

Imagine having players who know there's a big bonus in it for them if they play well. It would ensure that players at all levels put their all into a game

Nail on head mate. I remember having a debate with someone over the road many moons ago where we were discussing the idea that every club.....we were in the PL at the time......should enter into a standard contract with every player to pay them a flat salary of,say,£20k a week,and then negotiate individual bonus payments with them based on performance. This would be ensured by appointing a sort of player review committee comprising ex players,management representatives, knowledgeable fans,perhaps even an experienced journo,who would watch every player in every match and assess their performance including attitude,fitness,skills,effect on the match result etc. which would then form the basis for the bonus payment to be made or not made.
Nobody but me thought it a good idea iirc!:emoticon-0102-bigsm
