Yep spot on nearly all other clubs had moved on from the drinking culture, to a we are athletes and need to act like one, ..Tony Adams days were long gone for most clubs. Overseas players and managers would not put up with it. Defoe in particular was an exponent of 'my body is a temple/working tool, that's why he kept playing so long
100 likes and there’s still fans on here think they should be clapped on and off instead of having half bricks hoyed at them.
Footballers basically get paid for training. As long as they do as they are told and run around a little bit during the week then they are entitled to their pay. Anything they produce on the football pitch matters not one jot. Shocking really.
Yep,you're right. Which is why it's all the more surprising that some intelligent, hard headed businessmen actually believe they're doing the right thing by entering their clubs into these contracts. I know they are employed by egotistical owners who haven't got a grasp of the value of money, but, even so,you'd think they'd come up with a common plan to stop themselves being ripped off almost every single week, for some?
It’s not like. I heard Charlie say that the piss taking was going to stop so it must have stopped by now.
But its the same in many walks of life. I'm a draughtsman. I have the ability to improve myself, get promotion etc, if I put my mind to it, but I choose not to due being stuck in my ways and general laziness. As long as I come into work, do a drawing, go home, then I am entitled to my pay, I'm happy. I'd be pissed off if i was sacked for refusing to do keepy uppies at my office desk whilst simultaneously drawing one day a week. I can imagine footballers falling into the same trap. Its human nature. The amount of money they receive whilst falling into this trap is another matter. Unless football from across the board, from those throwing stupids amounts of money about, to the fans continuing to help fund it, then mediocrity will continue to be rewarded.
Mr 55p do you hand draw so to speak rather than use a computer, i was turned down by my job centre about 40 years ago, went to college years later and found drawing rods out (carpentry and joinery) a doddle, i produced the best drawing/rod 1987-88 ever seen at Wearside college said by Mr frue i think was his name, Scottish tutor one or two of not606's may remember him, got my city & Guilds as well, i should have went back and did the ONC in building but that is another story became a decorator instead.
Yes mate, but if some footballers worked at your place, they would come into work, not bother doing the drawing and spend the day on the bog.
Which is why so many people say they should be on a basic wage + attendance/performance bonuses, with clauses built in for serious injury obviously.
