The media are torn on this one as he’s a converted Christian and he’s brown. So they’ve mentioned mental health as well as terrorism <laugh>

The mental health issues of people committing any violent crime is complex and rarely addressed for that reason.

I do not pretend to have an answer but generally society uses the term evil.

You could argue that anyone committing a violent crime has mental health issues.

The Yorkshire Ripper, Fred and Rose West, school boys who stab other kids cos of a dirty look, the two boys who murdered Jamie Bulger, Harold Shipman, the bloke rapping and grooming young girls in Rotherham, and Beverly Allett etc.

What they did ain't "normal" or rational so maybe they all have mental health issues.

It gets even more complex with terrorism.

Was the London nail bomber in 1999 a cold hearted nazi or was he a person with poor mental health or both?

Same with the London Bridge, 7/7 and other terrorists.

Then there is the issue of "terrorists" fighting massive oppression like Mandela and the ANC, the French resistance, etc.
Similar with the Black Panthers and Malcolm X in the US in the 1960s... criminals or fighting for justice and equality.
In these cases I am clear that these people were freedom fighters but others see / saw them as criminals.

But the minute you mention it you run the risk of being accused of supporting terrorism.

Not sure I've seen a discussion about the IRA go anywhere but to a row tbh.

I suspect there is no concensus so it'll remain very complex and taboo.

Sorry if this is too of topic. Just some random thoughts.

Just playing Devil's advocate, but what about the French resistance during WWII?

They set off bombs and blew people up... Not always military.

;Edit:. I guess they were French so they must have had mental health issues regardless... :emoticon-0138-think

The Black Panthers imo were less terrorists than the Govt agents who targeted them . The weather underground far more fitted the normal "terrorist" label but as a more white and middle class group didn't face the same murderous tactics .

PS our own white middle class revolutionaries the Angry Brigade had very few working class members and one of them when later interviewed said " Angry Brigade my arse they were more like the slightly peeved brigade " <laugh>

    Yeah good point.

And as has been mentioned, Black Panthers, ANC, would add the Weathermen in the US to that list too.

Could be here for many hours discussing that lot, but I obviously won't. Other than to say although Mandela could be seen as a freeedom fighter, I very much doubt his wife could be, and that's the problem with a lot of movements when you have people with other agendas.

Madikizela-Mandela endorsed the necklacing of alleged police informers and apartheid government collaborators, and her security detail carried out kidnapping, torture, and murder,[18][19][9] most notoriously the killing of 14-year-old Stompie Sepei[5][20][21] whose kidnapping she was convicted of.[22] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winnie_Madikizela-Mandela

the weather underground / weathermen were just another bunch of middle class radicals like the RAF rather than freedom fighters battling against oppression or forced occupation of what they consider(ed) their country .

I reckon in most places, travelling to a town you don’t live in, armed with an assault rifle to act as a vigilante at a demonstration, would see you locked up without having to fire it and kill a couple of blokes whilst trying to kill a 3rd. But ‘Merica though. Apparently the judge had a Trump rally anthem as his ring tone. Sweet justice.

I'm sure I remember this incident during the riots, and the young kid just rocked up from out of town tooled up, walking down the middle of the street like something out of spaghetti western. Unless I'm thinking of another incident.

Problem he had, once you let off the gun and shooting the first one, to save his own life he no choice but to shoot more, I very much doubt he would have remained in one piece otherwise.

The main question for me was, was he a vigilante, yes, of course he was, he claims he was asked to go there by some businessman, yeah righto. He's going to spend a long time looking over his shoulder now.

As for the rioters themselves, I've never got the mentality of trashing your own town, regardless of the wrongs of the old bill, it just defies all logic, when you trash your own local businesses. That's like Aber giving himself a covid jab to spite everybody.

He went there deliberately seeking confrontation and he found it.. He had no place being there and whether threatened or not he chose to unload and killed 2 people and only good fortune meant it wasn’t 3. A stupid teenage twat, who fancied himself as a white supremacist, took someone else’s firearm and committed murder. If in the same circumstance, if he was black and the victims white, he’d starting a full life sentence tonight. There’ll be massive fallout from this imo, it’s virtually guaranteed, as it’s yet another example of what prompted the entire BLM uprising to start with.

As for the rioting, it never makes sense but happens when law and order is completely broken down after legitimate protest has turned into an angry mob, looting and taking advantage of the lawless interlude. Heading straight into it with an automatic and then claiming self defence is like sticking your hand in a fire and claiming the fire was to blame for your first degree burns.

A quick look on social media and there’s white supremacists across the globe celebrating this verdict as a ‘win’ for their ideology. ****ing scumbags.

Just seen the video of when the shooting happened, it was the one I thought i'd seen, some kid walking down the middle of the street with a gun, was always going to end badly kid + gun = death. Some guy went towards him, fired quite a few shots into him, then the others obviously (one with a hand gun) then tried to take him down, so pop pop a few more times. His only route out and another bit I remember was him walking back up the road with his hands in the air as the armoured vehicles came down. Why someone as young as him is allowed a gun, beggers belief, treated it like a toy, now realise, no they really do kill people. America eh!
