Instead of community service for petty drug use he carjacks twice (and attempts another three times).

Carjacking alone has a max jail time of 20 years. If he got the max for each attempt that's 100 years just from the carjacking attempts. All to avoid a drug-use charge that would probably have ended with probation and community service.

Doing the maths...

So each minute he spent in that car trying to evade the police managed to rack up an extra 19 months of jail time. <laugh>

Fair enough, the original articles I read didn't seem to be confirming it as fact, hence the caution on my part.
