The women's game has grown massively and is getting huge crowds. The same commentators are working across both games, so why make then say batsman and batswoman - nothing wrong with using batter as a generic term and certainly not as conspiratorial as you are suggesting
Yes there is . . . . as Rowley said above, the term 'batsman' or 'batsmen' has been used for over 250 years, 'cos that's what they are, so why change it 'cos women play !
If they want to call themselves 'batswomen' let them, but 'batter' is what coats fish when they are fried with chips. It also sounds like something that a child, who knows no better, would say when referring to a batsman :emoticon-0148-yes:

I don't even watch cricket

No there is nothing wrong with it. But there's nothing to apologise for either, unless there is a woman batting, in which case they will sound stupid. I can see why in such cases they go with batter. No reason though to try and expunge a word from use .

By the way, in an interview recently, Stephen Fry who now works for the ECB, did actually say that he would like to "educate" people, and he meant everyone not just media people, into using the term batter . There is just no need for that at all. It is patronising at best.

Looking very comfortable here mind.

Must say Jimmy really looks a shadow of himself. A bit of movement, but mostly early, and just no threat.

Not good to see such a great bowler looking so short of what he was.
I hope he proves me wrong, but I think we've come to the end of his incredible career.

A good day for us today and the low tale down to his right by bairstow was a beauty.

Hopefully it gets his confidence right up l, we get them out early then crack on putting a big score together

With the weather forecast, I won’t be surprised if we get them out quickly in the morning and then put 400 on before we declare giving them a few overs before the close of play.

Looks a great day for batting today so I hope you are right
Friday looks a damp bowling day, the Sat likely wiped out with rain.
