Big questions. Although not a believer myself I don't have any problem with people who believe in God. I just find it strange that he doesn't make himself visible to everyone. What's he hiding? Eh?
I can respect the likes of Jerseymackem's views because at least he accepts the overwhelming Scientific evidence as any normal rational person would have to, religious or not. It's the people who still manage to try concoct methods of discrediting sound Scientific research to fit their own beliefs which drive me nuts.
what I dont understand is how it would take god six days ; I mean , if youre god , wouldnt you just do it in a couple of minutes and be done with it ? I also have trouble with it being "six days " as surely this abstract paradigm would not have been applied to "time " at the very beginning of time ? Therefore , god is at least guilty of false accounting.
Well, the argument is that a 'day' in the bible could have been any period of time, it doesn't specify. If you look carefully, you can tell that about halfway through the first paragraph of Genesis, the writing style changes completely - it's though that this part was written several hundred years after the first.
So this god that you believe in hates gays, thinks women are second class citizens and will burn you in hellfire for all eternity if you so much as touch your winkey or use a condom? Or do you not believe in that bit either? Which bit do you believe exactly?
What's the big mystery though? Why can't he just reveal himself to us in some spectacular fashion? Why all the secrecy?
Spot on mate you can totally tell the different styles. Just to make sure we're on the same page. We are talking about the transition from Peter Gabriel to Phil Collins right?
I'm an atheist but I increasingly see religious types particularly catholics trying to marry their faith with modern accepted standards. It just doesn't work. At least the Church of England moves with the times! I've already spread the word on the net that it's time to drop the jesus and god bollox and just make it a moral code of Englishness. I suppose "come all ye faithful" could be dropped for "come as you are". On second thoughts better scrap the whole thing as it will likely always be an avenue for weirdos to seek out sex with children.
Because not all monkeys evolved to become human beings. Evolution is a result of many factors such as weather, climate, geographical position, prey, altitude, exposure etc. That's why people who are indigenous to Sweden are white with often blonde hair and people indigenous to, say, Ghana are black (look up melanin). There's evidence of human evolution all around you due to the shrinking (not literally!) of the modern world.
The theory of Intelligent Design is beyond a joke. It is immensely easy to point out the millions of aspects of the natural world which obviously weren't intelligently designed. One being the thousands of different types of eyes which have evolved in different animals, despite their only being slight variations on the final functions of these eyes. There are animals which have two different sets of eye balls, one which evolved after the other - and the killer is that they are completely different in their biological design - on the same animal! - yet they have been proven to function exactly the same as the other eyes on the animal. If an almighty intelligent creator found a method of creating these eyes why would he design a completely different method and stick it on the same animal. I could go on for hours about this but enough has already been said, there is absolutely no doubt about evolution, we have found fossils of animals which show them evolving over thousands of years - we even managed to mutate animals such as dogs, cats and horses with our own influences - in front of our very own eyes!
Looking at the Ascent of Man diagram, it's clear to that we evolved from the apes. please log in to view this image The only puzzle left is how far along to place Scott Brown. please log in to view this image I'd say somewhere between Cro-Magnon and Neaderthal, but the experts are still undecided.
...so you aren't a theologian. People started marrying their faith with modern accepted standards in the 1850's. Well done for spotting that.
I had a lecture today where, completely off topic, my lecturer used the principles behind refrigeration to disprove creationism - interesting stuff! The "fact" in the Bible is a load of bull, but the general moral principles are sound. I'm no christian, but I still think these principles have a place. Just not the rest of it. Anyone know that the Bible forbids eating Chameleons? I can't call myself Atheist until I have an inexhaustible proof that there is no God. So I believe in everything science can prove/ has evidence for, but can't rule out a God...yet.
He said it would take 6 days, but he finished at 2 on the Friday to go for a drink, didn't turn in at all on the Saturday due to the hangover, watched football on the Sunday and cracked on again on the Monday. Had it all done by the Wednesday. He also said it'd cost ã2500, but the cheeky ****er asked for an extra ã250 because he had to get Allah round to do the plumbing. Apparently God wasn't CORGI registered. All in all, he did a decent job I suppose
No I'm not. So what have I got wrong about your faith: homophobia, sexism, denial of sexual urges, lies about contraception? It's all about sex really isn't it, sex that must only be performed in order to create more followers to make the Nazi guy in Rome more powerful. I'll stick with my women vicars and gay bishops thanks, just wish they'd drop the god and jesus bullshit.
