So Russia have given the Ukraine till 0500hrs to pull all military forces out of Chrimea or face an all out assault. Don't think wither side is going to back down from this one.

Are they not aware of how much backing Ukraine have behind them, or are they just stupid?

I don't think the West will get involved from a military perspective. We didn't when Russia went into Georgia and I can't see the West risking a total war. It depends on how much Putin wants to call the Ukraine's bluff and if they don't back down it is going to go down hill very quickly.

There have already been plenty of threats. Seems Poland is mobilising troops, and the US have been very vocal about their opposition. There will also be sanctions and we'll exclude them from G8 which will certainly increase hostilities. I get the feeling the western world is making the joint decision to stand up to Putin's **** now. The EU is pretty determined to get Ukraine onside as well.

So... anyone here follow NCAA men's basketball? I'm guessing the answer is no.

At any rate, Warren Buffet is offering $1 billion (USD) to whoever can predict the outcome of every game in the tournament in a Yahoo! If I win and KL sells Saints, I'll buy the club.

His actions will just make Russia more isolated.

And Not606 can make the decisions democratically?

Better gain some more Fallout experience this evening then.

There's no way the west will risk military intervention over Crimea. Just will not happen. The problem isn't actually the Russians "taking back" Crimea, it'll come if they decide that that isn't enough.

"History shows - although I don't want to use too many historical comparisons - that those who appease all the time in order to preserve peace usually only buy a little bit of time." - Donald Tusk, Poland's PM.

Russia would be crushed if western powers took military action against them. They'd struggle enough against just Ukraine and Poland.

It's not just over Crimea though, is it? The Russian invasion is over Crimea, but our opposition to it is about far more than that.

If Russia try to keep Crimea then I don't think the West will do anything, other than apply sanctions. If however they press further into Ukraine and closer to the Polish border then the stance may change. The Polish border may well be the line that would spark military intervention from the West/NATO. Would Putin try to take Poland? I think that would be a bit much even for him.

That ultimatimum thing doesn't seem to have been verified from anywhere else (yet).

Why not? You can start by helping me out with any early darkhorse suggestions. UVA is on a roll right now. UC Bearcats were looking good but they just dropped two straight.

I took Joe's suggestion to mean that Not606 would help you run Southampton Football Club, at least as far as team selections and transfer targets are concerned. It could work...
