I take myself off up on the moors around here and camp out for the night in my bivvy bag. Just me and the stars and the sound of the ocean in the background. Puts you right in touch with your place in the universe seeing the glory of the cosmos all laid out before your eyes.

Not enough people get to experience that imo. Because they are too busy slumped on the sofa in front of the glowy box. Or they simply live in areas where you can barely see the night sky due to so many street lights, security lights, shops and malls lit up, car parks illuminated and on and on it goes.
Or maybe it’s because 99.9% of the time the night sky is boring as ****.
Let me know when there’s a lunar eclipse and I might pause the telly and go out for a cig.

Cities are self made prisons and not my type ting even though I don't mind the odd day in one....i live with nature around me in the valleys and fresh air alone is worth more than the money cities could ever give me

Agreed - but maybe if they were subsidised by government grants it would make them more affordable. Also make it compulsory for all company cars to be electric vehicles and give them tax breaks for it.

There's already a tax break. Companies pay no benefit in kind (well employees)

Saff will be pleased to know that I’m involved in a campaign down here to protect dark skies.

where I live, is one of the few places left in the uk where you can see the night sky uninterrupted by light pollution.

It’s such a waste of energy and a ****ing unnecessary use to light up buildings, car parks, shops etc all night long. It also interrupts animals and humans natural sleep patterns and is just generally really antisocial imo.

anyway, down to some of the work I did down here along with others. My area has been designated a dark skies park and protected for people to enjoy and for future generations <ok>

If you get chance go over to Ireland, to the Mayo Dark Sky Park...****ing awesome.

I still remember when you told everyone on here, that you didn't need a tv licence because you didn't have a tv.

So in light of your comment and being in touch with the cosmos, why did you get a tv licence after all these years...

<laugh>

Lol, you must be bored today <laugh>

I think that was when my brother gave me a TV and a Playstation. I was gonna get a licence and start watching some stuff, but ended up just setting it up at my unit. My little un comes over and plays it when I'm making in my kitchen. But to this day it's never been plugged into any TV programming stuff.

There is no clear scientific evidence that increased outdoor lighting deters crimes. It may make us feel safer, but has not been shown to make us safer.

A 2015 study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health found that streetlights don’t prevent accidents or crime

Thats about as accurate as me saying giving more money to the nhs doesnt cut a and e times.

The nhs getting record numbers of tax payer money but a and e times getting longer and longer.

Darksky.org probably some website aberdude uses

You need to read the studies linked on the page Bobz

You know i dont have time for that. Give us a summary like more people carrying knives doesnt mean more knife crime

According to a 2011 study of London street lighting and crime, there is no good evidence that increased lighting reduces total crime.” A 1997 National Institute of Justice study concluded, “We can have very little confidence that improved lighting prevents crime.”

If you click on the link to the study it says BobbyD from not606 is chatting cobblers again.

You lucky you got female loving champions like brb fighting for the safety of females.
