I appreciate they’re a much smaller country but there’s no arguing with the fact that they were decisive and put the welfare of the populace first.

Easier done when you only have a population of less than 5 million. Plus let's not forget us like the rest of Europe believe in freedom of movement, that's always going to have it's inherit problems as Italy found out first to its cost. Unlike China, where they have their own special ways of dealing with people, and restricting movement immediately. The reality was it didn't take long for it to become every dog for itself, particularly around PPE and ventilators. Also another mistake in the world resourcing half of its PPE from China, because that dog rightly is always going to look after itself first, much as the same as Germany. The lesson learned is have your own resources and your own people come first.

Lynyrd Skynyrd are from Florida. That’s all I know about the place.

Well, them and Crockett and Tubbs.
That’s my worry. What’s the point in lockdown if we are going to start letting flights in from Texas/Nairobi etc where they think god will fix Coronavirus with a mild thunderstorm?
well it's not so much "start letting flights in" as continue to let flights in as up till now we have imposed no restrictions at all on entry to UK .

Thing is though mate, they started earlier than most, have a population of 5 million... and it's still taken them 3 months to say they've got a handle on it. And they started before any deaths had occurred. That does not bode well for us.

Nope, in that I agree.

Lockdown isn’t designed to eradicate the virus, that’s impossible. They’re just trying to manage the spread so the NHS can cope hence the “Protect the NHS” part of the slogan. There’ll inevitably be a second wave after lockdown is eased as it only needs one person to carry the virus for it to spread. It’s all about managing it until the vaccine is sorted.

You sure that's right though? A friend of mine in Los Angrles who is coming home to the UK next week reckons she'll be in quarantine for two weeks when she gets here. Not sure how, or indeed if, that's enforced though.

I've never understood why that's not happened already? And those that are being repatriated (is that the right word fck knows) why not put them in a 2 week quarantine? You know, like we did at the start with those folk in Milton Keynes, when we were worried about ppl coming in from infected places. Well it's a pandemic which pretty much means the whole world is infected so we should be doing it automatically.
Yeah, I agree. In a way, human rights has to take a back seat, now. I’d go all Aussie and dump them on an island somewhere for a couple weeks before allowing them into the country.

Mental innit

Some freaky deaky nut job pastor in Alabama or Kentucky on one of those US evangelical channels doing his Covid-19 banishing rant.

Some genius turned it into a grime mix <laugh>

Yeah, I acknowledge the size of the population but they took action immediately. No denial or dithering.

Yeah I've seen that matey 'curing' people via their telly. Surprised someone went to that effort though.

My kid comeback from Sweden after the first week of lockdown in the UK, no control of movement in Sweden or at our airports whatsoever, while China is nailing every fooker to the wall, well not literally.

I’ve just read some articles from around 20th Jan that were reporting on the new virus in Wuhan. Experts in the U.K. casting doubt on the plausibility of the animal to human crossover bullshit the Chinese freaks were peddling. Make absolutely no mistake about this, every single death from this virus lays with China and their disgusting Hygeine standards and their inability to declare the truth.

Was he told to isolate himself for 14 days when he got here?

Sweden hasn't locked down at all has it? Unless theyve changed tack in the last 24 hours.

I think the size of population in relative terms only goes to show how much worse a position we're in if it's taken them that long to get to grips with it and our population is 14 times the size and we started much later.

In terms of as a population on its own, 5m is still 5m. Bet there are countries with similar population who are wishing they were in NZ position.
