Both are excellent Kiwi...just take what ever one you are offered. If you delay to get the other one, you could get Covid!

Either vaccine will stop you getting really ill and dying.
Apparently we have enough Pfizer coming to vaccinate the entire country

Seems like AZ might have ****ed up the US trial as well, including data which should not have been in there. Outstanding.

Don’t know about the details Sb but you have to wonder how they could make such a cock-up if so. Bewildering and astounding incompetence is all that can spring to mind.

This is very odd. I heard the BBC health idiot, Fergus what’s is name, hauled into the studio near the end of the Today programme, to talk very briefly about this, as breaking news, that the US had found problems with the data. Nothing on whether this compromised the results (my betting would be no, just, yet again, undermining confidence in them). But I can’t find anything online referring to it. Perhaps I was dreaming, or have entered the initial phases of senility. If it is true it will be incompetence rather than cheating.

I cannot find anything Stan At the moment.
Still say efficacy 79%
No evidence of blood clots.

What were the problems..

Stan Oslo.
March 18th BMJ...

Reporting on 37 cases of death/ serious disease with blood clots and low platelets in over 19 million vaccinations.

In UK there are at least 3000 blood clots a month, EU nearer 100,000....as someone said...the frequency is actually lower than the norm.

The article surmises
The risk factor is young women who are taking the combination oral contraceptive... ( Some contraceptives are known to have this as a risk factor)

They are further investigating the actual contraceptive ,( is it a particular one) these women are taking.

That may be the answer

As I mentioned one of the patients who was seriously ill with what they think is an immune response to the AZ vaccine, blood clots, low value platelets and bleeding was a 54 year old female voluntary health worker who died Sunday. Poor lady. I guess though she would not have been taking contraceptive pills at her age, and haven't read that they are looking at that possibility in the continueing research going on in Norway.

As far as I can recall it was that they had included data from patients who weren’t actually in the trial, or were in a previous trial. I think.

I’m beginning to think that Fergus misread something and they have now realised and gone all quiet about it. Him and that other bloke, Hugh thingy, are chronically useless, frequently they pretty obviously don’t understand the words that they are reading.

Can’t work out how to translate that page Ossie, but I’ll trust your summary, naturally.

If any more of these cases emerge it will be even stranger, given that it’s nearly two weeks since Norway stopped using the AZ vaccine, and reactions to vaccines usually take place between one and three days of having the jab.

Just like they concluded that the 33 Norwegians who died after getting the Pfizer jab were all already fragile, there will be something that links the poor victims in these cases, although the numbers are still so tiny as to make it difficult to work out what. From what I read I a country the size of Norway you could expect around 55 CVST cases (the cerebral bleeds) per year regardless of vaccinations, also not very age specific. But it has a low mortality rate, less than 10%. Odder still. Meanwhile the virus infection rate in Norway has gone up by 43% in a week.

Medical authorities have warned people who got the AZ vaccine to contact their Doctor immediately if they still had flu symptoms and back pain after 3 days, or with dark blue marks appearing on the skin. They also said once 14 days had passed since vaccination, you were probably ok.

One strong theory they have is that people's immune system reacted strongly to the AZ vaccine causing the very dangerous blood symptoms. More medical detail is in that link. They say our immune systems react more strongly in younger people generally. With limited data from Norway and other Countries, the Manager has just said these reactions have occurred slightly more in younger rather than elder people, the 5 in the main Oslo hospital were all under 55, but cases outside Norway in people over 60 have been reported. I think they used AZ for critical health workers in Norway, but Pfizer for the elderly, which obviously would lead to more such reactions in people of working age anyway. The same guy said the 5 people reported in the UK with these blood symptoms had died. Apparently a decision will probably be made Friday by the National health body in Norway on what they will do regarding the AZ vaccine, could continue, stop, or it sounds possibly like they may only give it to the more elderly, as they have done in France, with strong up needed. He also said while there had been side effects reported from Pfizer and I think Moderna vaccines, they had been low to moderately serious while the AZ side effects were extremely serious.

He also said the AZ data survey presented to US authorities was apparently flawed, unfortunately.

Wtf is happening in Norway

In BMJ

Doctors in Norway have been told to conduct more thorough evaluations of very frail elderly patients in line to receive the Pfizer BioNTec vaccine against covid-19, following the deaths of 23 patients shortly after receiving the vaccine.

I repeat over 30 deaths wtf.

edit

it is over 35 deaths following Pfizer.

Stan have you heard of anyone in this country dying following any vaccination
Not explicitly from the jab, some people I think died of COVID/COVID related illness because they were infected already when they had the jab or very soon after, before it had kicked in. Of course of the thousands of yellow cards some (less than 500 out of nearly 29 million jabs given) have also had fatal outcome, but no emerging patterns to link with vaccines, given the target population unsurprising and proportionate between AZ and Pfizer. Some anaphylaxis after some jabs, mainly Pfizer, all dealt with ok I think. The yellow card notices show 5 cases of CVST, no deaths in the U.K., and that’s what’s in the press as well.

If the jab caused an immune system beserk response in these victims, isn’t it likely that the same thing would have happened had they caught the virus?

Infections in Norway are increasing a lot, they say due to the virus mutations found originally in the UK and S. Africa. Worst hit is the Oslo area.

The many questions just answered by this same Manager said the shortfall of AZ vaccine now was a problem, but because they hadn't got what they'd been promised it was less of a problem than it would have been They had the Pfizer and Moderna promised, and I just heard all the people working at the main hospital in Oslo are getting vaccinated with Moderna now.

Population of what, 5 million? Shouldn’t take too long to get everyone done if they have the supply. Does Norway contract direct with the companies?

I’ve come to the conclusion that there re massive differences in national perceptions of risk and what is reasonable to expect from a ‘contract’. Perhaps things have just been so **** in the U.K. that it’s beyond my comprehension that anywhere would get wound up about a potential solution. But things definitely haven’t been as bad in Norway, and the perspective will be different.

Norway was getting vaccine from the EU via Sweden. But it has been reported they are expecting a lot of the Johnson 1 dose vaccine starting April. Not sure if that is coming the same way or not.
They have just announced a new national tightening of restrictions until at least after Easter including a ban on serving alcohol in the whole country, and people returning from "unnecessary" travel abroad will have to go into a 14 day hotel quarantine even with a negative test after 3 days, as now. I guess like in the UK, there are parts of Norway that have seen next to no virus, or none at all.
