To give you some perspective Ossie, there have been 649 deaths in Norway total out of a population of 5.4m, and an incredible 92 in total in Thailand out of 66.5m (same as U.K.). In my area, Warwick, a nice, representative bit of Middle England, population 142,000, there have been 248 deaths from COVID since this **** started. May be one of the reasons we are a little perplexed by the reactions to tiny numbers of potentially vaccine related issues when we see the impact of the virus itself on a completely different scale.
There are huge local variations too. For example I read the government reported 82% of virus infection in Norway has been in Oslo. But then in Oslo itself there is far more virus in areas where there are a lot of people living close together in apartment blocks, sometimes crowded in one flat, where the majority of working people can not work at home, they work in public services, as taxi or bus drivers, in food shops where they will have a lot of contact with people etc..
Just to say ...knowing about 4 of the vaccine development team personally, what they did is the opposite of greed and capitalism. It's years of study devotion, initially for less than the living wage, long hours studying then a desire to actually prevent through knowledge a disaster rothe human race. Greed Boris...only you would think if that... And don't say he pulled it back immediately or he was only talking about AZ or the EU. It didn't come out that way
A good day to unleash another asylum seeker story. Being a Tuesday I assume he was half a bottle of Glenfiddich down when he spoke.
I think people need to take what he said in context and not just grab a few lines. Even when he said it he thought people may use it against him and he immediately retracted the comments. This is what happens now. You have to watch what you say because some will use it against you.
I enjoyed his comments on Starmer and Islington having himself lived in Islington in a house worth millions for years. Maybe it needs more context.
I don't see what that has to do with his remarks of 'Capitalism' and 'greed' but I guess a few will use this as a distraction to hide their resentment of the government because they have had an amazing rollout of vaccinations. Funny how very few ever question those sinister remarks made by the EU commission regarding export bans and threats yet they pounce on this? Same old voices, same old hypocrites.
Yeah it’s not really anyone else’s fault if you’ve been groomed by the right wing press to get into a froth over that.
I have before and here repeat my condemnation of the EU comments about vaccine restrictions. I remind everyone that our vaccine sufficiency is due to the sensible early gambling on vaccines that the government carried out. Well done government and NHS.. and particularly scientists world wide ( Which we could have done within bthe EU anyhow..so no Brexit stuff here) The physical vaccine rollout was carried out by NHS and pharmacy enterprise... Many congratulations there too. It is sensible to look after your own...but threats will not and do not wirk
People in ROI trying and failing to get vaccinated in NI....... People living in the Republic of Ireland have been warned to stop booking Covid-19 vaccination jabs at centres north of the border unless they are registered with a doctor there or have an NHS number. Hundreds of people from south of the border, some travelling from as far as Dublin and Galway, have been turned away from centres across Northern Ireland in recent days. https://www.rte.ie/news/2021/0323/1205728-northern-ireland-vaccinations/
Apparently, the dinghies coming across the Channel are mostly filled with French and Germans hopeful of getting a vaccine
The European Commission is proposing controversial new rules that would let the EU slash vaccine exports for six weeks to places like the U.K. and U.S. — countries that are either receiving EU-made vaccines but not sending other shots back, or that have vaccinated more of their population than the EU. Meanwhile... EU inspection ‘finds’ 29m AstraZeneca doses in Italy Says it all.
29 million doses of AZ vaccine found stored in Italy as part of an EU investigation, supposedly to be sent to the UK. Italian La Stampa claiming it probably came from a production site in Holland that is currently not approved to produce vaccine in the EU.
Is that the same Italians that stopped 500K doses going to Australia because it said it didn't have enough?
The Italian government says these batches were not going to be sent to U.K., but apparently Belgium. Presumably for further redistribution, Belgium certainly doesn’t need 29 million doses on its own (neither does the U.K. now). They were in a ‘fill and finish’ plant, putting the vaccines into bottles and labelling it, which will be doing the same thing for the Johnson and Johnson vaccine soon. Apparently J&J are going to have problems supplying the US with its promised 20million single shot doses this month. If the same thing happens in the EU it will be interesting to see the reaction. This link to the clearest explanation of the contract the EU has with AZ I have seen. https://www.politico.eu/article/cor...ion-contract-astrazeneca-ties-hands-lawsuits/ AZ grossly over promised what it could deliver, the wizards of Brussels left themselves no comeback., apart from refusing to pay and demanding their money back ( the U.K. -AZ contract allows the U.K. to terminate the contract and to invoke ‘punishment’ clauses if there are delays in delivery). This relationship is now so toxic I’m surprised they are persisting with it. Even if they get all the AZ vaccine they want they will struggle to get their populations to take it - over 50% of German and Spanish citizens think it’s unsafe, and more than 60% of French. Hope nobody tells them that the J&J vaccine and the Russian one (that the Germans are trying to get through the regulatory process - Russians seem oddly shy in supplying data..) are very similar to the AZ one.....
News reports it was 250,000 stopped going to Australia. You have to come to the conclusion that the EU has little idea what it is doing. Claiming they don’t have vaccine they need. 29m stock of vaccine sitting around. Decrying the vaccine they have a high stock of and scaring citizens away from it. Threatening bans on other countries because they don’t have vaccines they want. Not knowing what stock they have. Not knowing where the stock they don’t have is being kept. Ursula needs to get a bit more hands on. Or maybe she is and that’s the problem.
Can we have circa 12m of those AZ doses sitting in Italy, that will be enough to cover our entire population with 2 doses.......
my mistake 250K . I think the problem is down to a few in the commission who decided to interfere. I also believe that Macron has caused a big problem by his unfounded remarks on the AZ vaccine. I read an article in the French news today that said Covid had reached parts of France that it hadn't before (the area I have my house had little to no cases, then today I see a local town named in the news regarding surging cases). What a sceptical France doesn't need is that idiot Macron thinking he is an expert on vaccines. Trying to ban exports is dangerous and utterly stupid. No one will win if that happens, it will only cause more deaths. UVD premiership has been a complete nightmare (no doubt she will get reward for incompetence). Rather than try and punish us and stop our faster recovery, they should look at their own downfall in this matter and punish those individuals that have let the EU down.
Don't be silly the doses will go to the so called 'important EU countries' first. It's like communism whereby everyone is equal except for those at the top.
Yes, hate to say this but I read today a Norwegian vaccination expert saying she was afraid the immune response causing the severe blood problems in a few recipients of the AZ vaccine could be in the what she called adenovirus (or cold virus) delivery method common to the AZ, Johnson and Johnson, and Sputnik vaccines. It was one of 4 possibilities she thought. Think I read Chinese vaccines use the same methodology too.
