Very similar headlines in all the papers, including Observer and Sunday Times, and direct quotes from Von der Leyen along the lines of ‘we have the power to stop AZ exporting unless they deliver to EU countries first’. I suspect it’s a genuine threat, and the more panicky of the EU national leaders, including Macron and Merkel, will support it, though there are plenty of other countries - Belgium, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Ireland - which won’t. If it is carried out I’m sure our government of grown ups will respond by ‘reluctantly’ preventing the export of critical components for the Pfizer jab from where they are made in Yorkshire to the Pfizer plant in Belgium.
I wonder if the EU leaders have asked themselves why AZ appears to prioritise just about any other customers over them?
Thanks Ossie. It’s all a bit of a mess.
Wot Beth said. It’s a big trial in the circumstances, but you would need the biggest of all time, hundreds of thousands of participants, to pick up blood clots, and that still wouldn’t prove that they were linked to the vaccine.
