Let's lighten the mood....
My five year old niece is a bit bored of lockdown. She's a bit of a Minnie the Minx, and decided she wanted a haircut. She stole scissors out of the kitchen drawer and has given herself a great mullet job, cutting the whole fringe down to about an inch
my sister-in-law is mortified, especially as she is going back to school today. But the funniest thing, out of all the Primary schools in Scotland, the news channels have chosen their school to be the one they go to to film the kids returning after lockdown - sister-in-law is now raging

The problem is, that NOT opening schools will effect the MH and learning of many thousands of children.
This is gonna effect the very poorest and the less gifted (like mine to be honest) for years to come...probably generations.
I’m not saying it’s a great thing or a disaster....however I can’t see there is much of an option.
They're trying to square a circle, so they'll never be right whatever they do.
If we follow the scientists advice we'll be in perpetual lockdown for years until the virus is completely erradicated.
In my totally uneducated opinion it would make sense to test the effect of younger years going back. If the plan is for kids of all ages to go back to full school days in-person on the same Monday then it seems unnecessarily risky. As Frome says, cases in the thousands and deaths in the hundreds is still high. We are just a bit numb to it now.
Personally, and it s just my own opinion, I’d feel it better for the elder kids to go back first as they are the ones who are really suffering.
I really dont see the point in having many of the restrictions once schools reopen. It's a case of simple maths really. I might be able to exercise with one other person outside whilst my child shared a room with 29 other children. It's similar to the tiers system, which everyone knew was bollox. Either lock down or dont, theres not really an 'in between'.
I can only speak for my kids school mate, but they aren’t mixed together with all the others.
They stuck to their ‘bubbles’ of about 5-6 kids and even have break time and lunch separately.
There have been a few times that one kid out of another ‘bubble’ has been positive and only those kids have needed to isolate.

The first results of the UK vaccination programme suggests it is having a "spectacular" impact on preventing serious illness.
Research led by Public Health Scotland found in the fourth week after the first dose, hospitalisations were reduced by 85% and 94% for the Pfizer and AstraZeneca jabs respectively.
It is the first sign of the real world impact of vaccination in the UK.
Figures for England are expected to be released later.

Try explaining social distancing to an excited 5 year old
It feels like the 8th March was decided ages ago, regardless of case numbers.
How much damage could waiting an extra couple of weeks do? And will they react quickly if cases escalate?
To me it feels like there is still too much infection out there to ease tings in 2 weeks.
Plus we know that with things being announced in advance adherence starts to wane long before the specified dates.
I Feel we are on a precarious path now.

Alternatively, I feel we are on a really encouraging path, especially with so much good news about the effacacy of vaccines.
On a personal level....the work is definitely getting more manageable. Still getting COVID jobs but nowhere near the scale of January.

It's almost like people want the government to fail? I think they have (if reports are correct) a well measured approach to re opening the country.
If we’ve learned from previous mistakes we should be really good at this by now.
Your words not mine. It would be unimaginably stupid to want the government to fail.
All I'll say is they are making exactly the same sounds as last time and look where that ended.
The Vaccination progress has been brilliant I just hope they aren't jeopardising that progress. I don't know how close to the knife edge we are with regards to new variants and mutations that can outrun the vaccines but we should be reducing that risk element as much as possible.
