I think this goes back to something Sb talked about earlier... the expectation of instant gratification and having everything delivered on a plate. The world never was like that, and certainly isn’t now. This is the time to learn how to respond correctly and effectively to a dire situation where there are no easy answers of immediate gratification. Thousands expected to turn up and get into party mode, when they should have been expecting to be adults and act responsibly to the pandemic - but they couldn’t do that and have actively caused the increases within their ‘working’ environment (for which they took out the loans they are actively complaining about, rather than saying ‘I’ve got this loan, I better act responsibly and not **** it up’). And putting up signs ‘we need beer’ isn’t going to help get any sympathy from any common sense person. They need to ‘man’ up and smell the coffee. Is it just me, or do others have not much sympathy with these Uni students crying that they can't socialise and their experience is being ruined...
Last time I looked, Uni was about gaining a qualification.
Maybe I am just getting old...
My business has suffered dramatically this year and putting up ‘beer’ signs won’t fix it. Complaining about my losses won’t fix it. Blaming Boris and his myriad of rule changes won’t fix it. I have to own my situation and get on with it. Act as sensibly as I can so as not to make the situation worse (and hope others do the same). I can put up with wearing a mask, not going to the pub or restaurant, not seeing family, not bitching, protecting others as best I can - it’s an inconvenience sure, but there are far more worse off than us (and they aren’t students heading off to Uni!).
Or maybe I’m just getting old!?
