Might of gone off subject a bit but isn’t that the way these things (and conversations) develop ?
A PB of 51.31 for 10km has definitely helped clear the head for a bit of study.

You are correct, they’re not all lazy & selfish.

Yes I agree with that, I know your post concentrated on students but they arent the only ones spreading the virus. It wasnt so long ago that a certain high profile advisor to the PM felt like he needed to take his wife away for her birthday during lockdown. What was the punishment? **** all. !!

I would just like to point out that my comments about instant gratification etc weren’t aimed at the young, they were aimed at all of us, including myself. We’ve all been lured into thinking that it is our ‘right’ to have things our own way in perpetuity.

I have considerable sympathy for young adults at the moment, I think we (ie people of my generation) have served them extremely poorly. Plenty of idiots in every generation, but my kids, and their mates, are happy to work hard and have as much fun as possible. Just like I was at their age (now I don’t like working hard).

The kids you see on telly are just that - kids. Most of those in lockdown are first years, away from home for the first time and obviously rather overexcited and trying to impress their new friends. Of course they are daft not to have seen exactly what is happening coming, but they were also told to go to halls of residence by universities desperate to get their cash in.

    Another balls up really.

That’s a very handy time young man. Just done (this morning) 6km in 30.08, but the last kilometre was seriously slow, as usually I stop at 5km. I’m classing the last one as a ‘warm down’. I reckon it would be a couple of months of build up to get anywhere near your time for 10. Think I’ll stick to the 5, I’m in maintenance mode now.

What’s your PB for 5km G ? That 6km time is really good to be fair. I did a 24.40 on Friday which I was well chuffed with. Bought a new pair of trainers last week (Brooks), and had a gait measurement....it’s done wonders for my times.
This virtual race I’m doing has also helped (Lands End to John O’Groats) and I’ve ran 369 miles since 13th July...feel so much better for it.
Plus the fact I’m really enjoying getting back into boxing with the lad training me....even looking at a white collar bout if I keep on improving. Would be a laugh :)

Here are the numbers of Covid hospitalisations in England in September.....

    27-09-2020 241
    26-09-2020 245
    25-09-2020 274
    24-09-2020 288
    23-09-2020 314
    22-09-2020 268
    21-09-2020 275
    20-09-2020 237
    19-09-2020 204
    18-09-2020 205
    17-09-2020 199
    16-09-2020 183
    15-09-2020 194
    14-09-2020 172
    13-09-2020 153
    12-09-2020 143
    11-09-2020 135
    10-09-2020 143
    09-09-2020 136
    08-09-2020 99
    07-09-2020 84
    06-09-2020 85
    05-09-2020 94
    04-09-2020 67
    03-09-2020 69
    02-09-2020 79
    01-09-2020 58

Whilst there has been a drift upwards during the month, it's from a very low base and there has actually been a fall in the last few days (this may be a blip of course).

For comparison, here are the numbers for the first week of April (two weeks after lock-down started).

    07/04/2020 2,744
    06/04/2020 2,679
    05/04/2020 2,592
    04/04/2020 2,593
    03/04/2020 2,564
    02/04/2020 2,932
    01/04/2020 3,099

There are currently 1,883 Covid patients in hospital. On 7th April there were 16,570.

Are these numbers really worthy of the extreme measures already being taken and the seemingly inevitable full lock-down which is to follow?

    (ducks for cover)

Best for 5km is a remarkable and truly one off 23.30, which will never happen again. I couldn’t believe it and had to check smart watch and phone several times. I ran a level/downhill route rather than my usual mixed route with a couple of nasty climbs. On that I average 24.30-25.00, depending on aches and pains and how much pasta and wine I had the night before. I’ve been wearing Brooks GTS trainers throughout, on my second lockdown pair now. Given that I hadn’t run an inch on the road since my twenties until April this year I am seriously chuffed with myself. Also do 15 minutes of Woody’s lunges/squats etc including some very light stuff with (6kg) dumbbells most days (run every other day) and reckon I am fitter than I have been for decades. I still have gym membership but haven’t returned since they opened as I’m sure the current regime is doing me more good.

We are also eating much more home cooked stuff with fresh ingredients and I am fairly good at not drinking 4 nights a week (variable).

Personal health one of the few upsides of the pandemic.

We had a thread for this didn’t we?

You must of been pretty decent to get paid to fight Bob.....a ‘journeyman’ ? (A group of fighters who are sometimes much maligned but mostly have some excellent skills and courage)
My lad says I’d have to get a decent match up (cue midget jokes) but I’m really enjoying it again mate. Used to do a lot of martial arts when I was younger (Kick boxing, Tae Kwan Do, Kung Fu) but never appreciated the technical aspect of boxing....and of course following England for years in places like Poland never really taught you technique ;)

No need to duck for cover Stroller it's a legitimate question because if the second wave is not accompanied by a parallel second wave in deaths and hospitalizations then the government's calls for extending lockdowns will lose credibility. We need to know the reasons behind these figures. Some countries like Spain and France (also the Netherlands) are experiencing a second wave which is bigger (in terms of infections) than the first one was - yet the rise in hospitalizations and fatalities is minimal. We need to know the reasons - is it because of demographic factors (more young people being infected), or is there a time lapse and the deaths will follow, or is it due to a possible mutating of the virus itself into a milder (less deadly) form ? I would be interested to hear Beth's take on this. We know that viruses mutate, and that this is normally into a milder form - is this starting to happen now, or is it too early to be sure ?

Why duck? It would be nice if a knowledgeable scientific figure with authority (yes, I know.....) said that they were tracking the trends and what it indicates about the types of people getting the disease and the severity of the disease itself, and by certain dates, if the trends are maintained, this will enable us to make evidence based decisions about the strength and nature of social distancing restrictions required, if any are.

Instead we’ll have some twat of a politician contradicting himself and blaming people.

I’m pretty certain it’s our public health doctors telling the government that we are going to hell and the NHS will collapse. Despise them as we might the instincts of this cabinet is much more light touch, open everything up than the opposite. Someone is scaring the **** out of them.

Yes, you would hope that these trends were being tracked. It does make me wonder why all we seem to be told about is the number of new positive cases and the ridiculous statistics on how many cases per 100,000 people there are in a certain area, which are meaningless unless there are standard levels of widescale testing, including of those with no symptoms.

    | Tickets for Tiverton Town away go on sale tomorrow for season ticket holders between 4:30pm-8:30pm at The Cygnet Health Care Stadium. Tickets are £12 each and payments are to be made by card payment only.

It appears that Wealdstone, and others, are doing things all wrong - if you want fans back in the stadium you need to get relegated down to level 7 of the football pyramid. In the Southern, Northern and Isthmian leagues crowds are still the same as normal
