That's a very positive spin on them I guess.
How about they were built to provide extra capacity should it be needed as some form of insurance.

The government have undoubtedly made mistakes but I can't believe some of you are turning your guns on that now. Quite unbelievable really.
These are not mistakes where somebody gets a question wrong or slightly injures themselves. They are mistakes that have cost lives ffs. Why would any logical, sane person not question such mistakes??? I find it incredible that people like yourself can just accept these things. I take it you agree with Boris that this has been a success up to date?

I don't damn them at all. I am just saying it was a knee jerk reaction from everybody:- government, experts, modellers

I also agree with Stan, I think the building of the first hospital was all they could do. In my opinion, it was not thought through (on the staffing front) but very luckily we didn't need the extra staff.
What I hope comes out of this is that we develop a pandemic action and research group, whose sole purpose is to plan for events like this in the future. As events like this will increase in the future. Then government ( of any party), can have real experts on hand who have planned for this

CCJ: lets try and take some positive ideas out of this @@@@storm. I also think that we the human race have got a little too complacent in our ability to deal with anything that comes along

I'm quite happy to do that Beth. Let's get Bob to start as he's quite big on the positive stuff. Well actually he just choses to goad anyone who doesn't agree with his opinion.

I dont think you've given an opinion CCJ.
That's what I have been waiting for. Some positive opinions on how the government have done well up to date. Cant be that difficult pal

As you say Beth damned if you do and damned if you don't. Yet you choose to damn them?

I think criticism of the authorities is fair enough.
Mistakes have, not surprisingly imo, been made.
However, it's the constant lecturing from our resident, award winning pandemic experts on here, forever rubbishing what we're being told that is such a ****ing pain in the arse.
Question stuff sure, but this dick waving 'I know more' than everyone else is really quite silly.
If posters on a ****ing football forum are so clued up on this, it's a total mystery how the entire world has struggled so much.

I'm not accepting them Bob. In fact I now know of four friends or colleagues who have lost loved ones to this horrible disease. I do think the Government have made mistakes but most governments have. I think they are not setting out to make mistakes though. They are trying their best. They've done most things with good intention and its a truly thankless task. The fact we have big cities, high density and a multicultural demographic means we have this disease worse than most countries.

I dont think anyone has said they know more than anyone else. If we are told rubbish Col then it will get rubbished. The entire world hasn't struggled with it either. There are countries with good, strong leadership making sensible, timely decisions and providing reliable facts and statistics.

Good post pal and truly appreciated. I would hope they are not setting out to make mistakes. I feel that the mistakes have cost too many lives. Then the fact that they can brazenly try to mislead people on national tv is what really gets me. Calling this a success is totally Trumparian. I hope things improve moving forward as that's all we have now.

How could they have provided extra capacity without staff? We are criticising the quality of advice, not the decision to set the hospitals up.

Its pretty clear that you don’t like people criticising the government, and that’s fair enough, but you would be more interesting if you could come up with a counter argument rather than just these trite, uninformed sarcastic bleats.

Trite, uninformed sarcastic bleats.
You're a real charmer aren't you.

I guess you'll count that as another one.

Totally agree. Like I say I'm interested in positives.

Not directly attributable to the Government, but the reduced human activity around the world has helped reduce pollution effects in congested cities and allowed wildlife to thrive in its natural environment. There was an image on the BBC this morning, which showed a lake in Mumbai full of pink flamingos unlike ever seen before.

So true Col! So true
