Sorry Ellers
If you think 15,000 deaths and more to come in the private sector is good news then I throw my hands in the air.

Germany with a far bigger population than us is far, far below us in death and infection rate

We have been stupid and inept.
We are still stupid and inept

I keep saying where is an jota of leadership from anyone...I mean anyone!

(and please do not say corbyn...because I will top trump you with a major or cameron...just do not... because none of those 3 people are suppose to be leading us at the moment)

Forgive my ignorance Beth, but what are the main mistakes the UK has made?
What could have been done differently in your opinion?
Serious question, as there's so much hyperbole about.

There are not enough people like yourself sooper. We live in such a money intoriated world that many just choose to put their elderley relatives in care homes. My mother looked after both her mother and father until they passed sacrificing a lot to do so.

I never looked at it as being a sacrifice, I was fortunate to live only two miles away and after my mother passed away in May 2006 both myself and my sister made a concerted effort to visit him and when he wasn't too well would shop and take him to his hospital appointments. It was really rewarding in I got to know him better than at any time previously, he also had an excellent warden in his sheltered accomodation which are another group who perhaps are not included in the PPE debate but are key staff for millions in such accomodation...

Must have missed the promising news.

The 888 deaths excluding all the ones we aren’t including and health professionals being inadequately equipped to stop themselves getting and spreading the virus wasn’t terribly promising.
I listed the stuff which was promising. If you choose to ignore it then that's just down to you.

We'll have to agree to differ mate.
If everyone adheres to them and keeps their distance, what's the problem?
Better than a free for all in all directions.

What if I walk backwards ? Would that be ok ?

If I see my vegan ham 2 metres into the aisle but get told I have to go all the way round the next aisle and back up again to get them instead ....isn’t that defeating the object a bit ?

Col, we have made a lot of mistakes. I accept no one knew what this was going to be like, but I anger is more in making mistakes not admitting to them and then making them again
Right
1. Holding of for herd immunity rather than going for lockdown, when it was fairly obvious that the virus had escaped from China
2. Not going for total lockdown
3. Not closing our borders...which we have not done yet
4. Not talking to the EU about central procurment plans
5. Not speaking with the right experts about ventilators.
6. Not being aware of the requirements for ventilators FOR covid patients
7. Making a song and dance about the Dyson contract
8, Claiming we have enough PPE
9. Then saying we have not got enough
10. Claiming it is a problem in the distribution metwork
11. Telling people to reuse single use PPE
12. Claiming we have more tests than we have
13. Saying we will do 100,000 tests a day (yes we have a few more days left on that one...but we are not yet up to 20k)
14. Not testing frontline workers until April
15. Not telling us the truth about death rates
16. still not telling us how many are dying in care home
17. Not telling us how many are dying in community.
18. Having no exit plan
19. Lying about setting up a vaccine centre when it was already set up.
20. Taking so long to set up the economic relief, which is still not being fully implemented by the banks

That is 20...can I go and have tea now, I think I have a few more grievances but I am being called

I mean initially they wanted as many of us to get it as possible and then had to change strategy when it was revealed that meant killing 200,000 which might not have gone down well so they pissed away vital time while countries that locked down quickly after the first case have tended to cope better. It wasn’t a great start.

You don't need to apologise Beth. If you read my post again I clearly state (not including the deaths it was promising news). Surprised you mentioned it?

re Germany... It really is too early to start comparing countries. Germany has had an increase in the last few days plus we know that there is some questions about testing after deaths as well? There are other factors that mentioned some time ago. Also, Spain and Italy both have more deaths than us and we have more people (I think)? I always find it hard when people compare countries ... funnily so do the scientists.

As for the 'Inept' comments. I will wait until it's over and we will hopefully have the full facts... until then it's just people making statements without knowing.

I don't need to mention anything about unimportant political figures. We have what we have because the vast majority trust them over the other mob.

Sadly people can't answer that question Col. It will be the same old stuff. Wait until it's over and we get the full facts... then we can all make a proper decision until then all this stuff is meaningless.

What countries Watford... I will be pleased to correct you here.

Yes there are promising signs....but hey .....Ellers its the 18th April, 15,000 people at least have died in this country alone.
I am very pleased that there promising signs... but even you would have hoped they would have come a month earlier

Ireland is an interesting one. Similar ICU capacity before this but took it seriously while we let people have a final night in the pub. Currently half the death rate (not absolute deaths as you lot insist on conflating and then using as an excuse).

You don’t need me to tell you New Zealand’s approach as we have Kiwi updating us hourly.

All of Scandinavia is holding up relatively well with the exception of Sweden. Perhaps a coincidence but the others have female leaders.
South Korea
Germany.

The question really should be which countries have coped worse.

Your turn.

Not sure I understand.

You get what you want as you go in one direction, surely?
If you do miss something, then by all means, as safely as possible, go back quickly and get it.

Honestly mate, I think this is just another example of making a problem out of the guidelines for the sake of it or not liking being told to do it.

Sadly ...a few people can already answer that question Ellers even if you cannot
The point is they don't... they just say "loads of things". This thing changes daily and people just need to accept that.
This a s22tstorm from China and we are adapting to it. I am sure the government has made a few mistakes and we will find out at a later date. Until then none of you actually has much of an idea of what's happening
