One of the challenges with this situation is too many different sources of information. This is Oxford University saying our model says something different to the Imperial model. Who does the layman believe? The government is following the Imperial model, the one which is more pessimistic. I think it makes sense to plan for the worse and communicate to the public on that basis.
This Oxford model requires testing to validate it (as does the Imperial one probably) but what has happened in Italy supports Imperial rather than Oxford.
Optimism is great but not when it generates what might be a false sense of security.

Sad news from my area.
Last night a few locals were on Facebook saying a 21 year old friend/relative had died. I didn't post as you never know with FB.
Anyway just confirmed on SkyNews that 21 Chloe Middleton passed away from Coronavirus. She had no underling health problems.![]()

That's some reassurance. But it shows there are headcases in their organisation or generally acting in their name.
Agree Goldie. It hits home when it's a family member of people/friends on my FB. 21 with no underlying conditions. As Staines says this is a worry and hopefully not a regular thing.21? How incredibly sad, Ellers
Agreed. However in this day and age politicians can be expect to be asked such a question and to have prepared for it by obtaining a properly considered cost estimate from a reputable economic analyst and possibly go further by saying how he would pay for it. That takes it out of the utopian ideal world where we can all start again with a clean state and a blank cheque book at our disposal into a realistic and credible proposition around which ordinary people can rally to support. Glib answers never achieve the aim of convincing people that you have answered the question as opposed to ducking it. You lose the debate thereby and the opportunity to influence the decision which needs to be made. No, he didn't give an answer. What he should have said, of course, is 'as much as it takes'.
some positive news coming out... data and models are showing that we may not get hit as hard as they first thought.
The professor said if we stick to the governments advice the NHS will be able to cope and he has now downgraded his 20K death prediction.
Also listening to this professor on TV and he has just said that they think half our population may have had this virus and just had a mild illness .![]()
Staines my Legion closed last Friday. I have just got a email from them saying about helping other members etc. I am 65 and am type 1 diabetic, can you please let me know what I can and can't do in helping other people. I have not been out since last Friday.Just back from my food bank deliveries and feeling good I was actually some use on my days off.
I’d urge anyone on here to do it......it’s piss easy and a great way of helping out the more vulnerable of society.

Not really appropriate to ‘like’ your post but take it as a vote of sympathy.Good. But that is **** all consolation to me who has just been informed by a series of texts that I am 'on the list' and therefore need to lock myself away like a hermit for 12 weeks. Fourtunately it won't affect my work but all the same. It was bad enough sitting at home for one day without being able to go out for anything more than one bout of exercise. Now I have another 84 consecutive days to look forward to. Apologies in advance if I get a bit fractious over the next few weeks.
