Just had a small insight into the ridiculous way schools are operating at present. My 7 year old grandson has to isolate as a classmate has tested positive. My 6 year old grandson at the same school does not have to isolate as he is in a different 'bubble'. My daughter has told the school she cannot leave one at home whilst taking the other to and from school and, as it stands, will keep both off school. Their response is to say if the younger one stays off they will classify it as unauthorised absence and issue a fine.

The boys are like peas in a pod and do everything together, so if one goes down with the virus it's odds on so will the other which makes the school's interpretation of the rules rather baffling. Probably trying to keep their attendance record high to please Ofsted. But another example of conflicting info as I was under the impression all who may be in contact would isolate as the boys are together whenever outside school...

I would ask get your daughter to write and ask for written confirmation from the school their procedure on Covid and what a parent should do in her situation? Common sense in this situation should prevail and I cannot see why a fine should be issued. Her other son could be showing signs of anxiety and fear of catching a virus......

A quick test would sort this. But you aren’t supposed to have one unless you are ill.

It's just that where i live, apart from numerous shops being shut it seems to be no different whatsoever to the last 6-7 weeks.

People everywhere, lots of shops still open, roads pretty much as busy as usual...... Is there any point to this new lockdown?

Plenty of traffic, but not so many pedestrians and centre of town deserted this evening.

The pubs are closed.

Hospitals are busy though. Hospitals in Birmingham cancelled all elective surgery.

We're 2 weeks into our 2nd lockdown and early signs that it may be having the right effect. Prior to 2 weeks ago we were running at >1000 new cases per day which is a large number given our population but latest figure today is 499 new cases so numbers are reducing and hospital admissions are down.....

The measures are not as stringent this time, pubs and restaurants are shut, cafe's can only do takeaways, gyms are closed, work from home where possible but people are out and about for exercise within 5km of home, golf courses are closed which doesn't make sense, schools are still open.....

Although measures are to be reviewed after 4 weeks but indications are that these measures will be in place for the full 6 weeks.....

Like being in an episide of The Walking Dead in Middlesborough last night. Streets were deserted except for homeless, junkies, alkies and general nut-jobs - I fitted in well. There were enough fireworks going off in every direction to make me think I was in Beiruit and under mortar attack. Roads were quiet today, even the A66 and the M8 through Glasgow.

Locally, seems to be a lot quieter, even though we're now at Level 3 (full lockdown is Level 4). Pubs are allowed open until 6 to serve food and non-alcoholic drinks, and do take-away and deliveries until later, but that's not going to save a lot of businesses.

Here the traffic seemed as busy as ever Thursday and Friday, but with most shops and pubs etc closed, there were a lot less people about in the towns etc.
On Thursday afternoon, my local Sainsbury was very quiet. Bliss!

Agree, traffic mostly the same with everyone working still; however evenings are quieter with hospitality all closed down.
Be interesting to see how the weekends are.

Good for Morrison’s, selling pre packed bags for shoppers to buy and deposit directly in the food bank donation bin. I usually forget to buy anything specific for this and end up donating something that I had actually bought for us. The Morrison’s way helps ensure that the food banks get what they need as well.

Sadly and shamefully food banks are an essential part of life for ever increasing numbers of people in these horrible times.

Youngest daughter every day runs a circuit that includes Hampstead Heath. She has texted me today to say it is completely rammed there today with people in groups meeting, and picknicing etc.

Article in the Times today about Nigel Pearson, who it appears is suffering from long COVID-19, and was sacked by Watford when pretty ill. He had the heart and blood pressure issues, but it seems his immune system is really playing up and he’s on steroids for something akin to rheumatoid arthritis. Or he could actually just have rheumatoid arthritis and it’s unconnected to the virus. This is a seriously weird illness.

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of "normal" people cocking this up every day, but those in positions of responsibility (politicians, celebrities, footballers etc) must be accountable for their actions too, whether it be a trip to Barnard Castle, a cross country journey on a train, having a big group of mates around for a meal or getting the local groupies around for a night in your hotel room. Each one of these digressions, which generally seems to go without any punishment, gives Joe Nobody licence to do what they want, which is why this thing will drag on and on and on.
