Right so from Saturday I am in level 2. Will the pubs and clubs be open in my area so I can get a cider?

At the risk of reinforcing my reputation on here as a functioning alcoholic, I feel the need to report the latest step in the nation's march towards Prohibition. We've just been informed by LNER that our train to Inverness will be 'dry'. This is not just to say that they won't be serving alcohol - no alcohol can be consumed on board. On enquiring why this should be, I was told that British Transport Police were enforcing the ban, because of 'the situation'.

Madness.

I think you may be a functioning alcoholic :emoticon-0102-bigsm

A mate of my son booked himself in for a COVID test. Drove to the centre, did the sign in bit, then his kids, in the back seat, really kicked off, so badly that he decided to bail and re book. So he drove home without taking the test.

Next day he was messaged to say he tested positive.

That, Woody, is definitely a false positive.

Do you think these restrictions make any sense, Col?

There are obviously some inconsistencies, but as I've said before, they're trying to square a circle.
Virtually impossible to provide a one size fits all policy with this thing imo.
I just try to do what I can to stay safe.

A lack of alcohol availability is obviously one of the main bug bares of yours.
For me, it's not being able to perform on stage or go to a live performance.
I do think they could probably have audiences in theatres in a reduced capacity.

It's not the lack of alcohol availability per se (I really can go for a few hours without a shant), it's the lack of sense or reason behind the prohibition. My wife and I, both of a certain age, are forbidden from having an alcoholic beverage on our 9 hour train journey to Inverness. When we get to our destination, we can have a glass of wine with our meal only if we are prepared to freeze in doing so. As someone living in a London borough, I can no longer have a few of beers with my pals in our regular haunt in Eastcote, but we can get together just up the road in Rickmansworth and convene as normal. Where is the logic behind all this?

Of course theatres should be open for restricted audiences - cinemas are aren't they? All outdoor sports should have people back, too.

If we really need to take action to slow the spread of the virus, it should be a complete, unequivocal - but short-term and time-defined - full lockdown.

They had two performances of 'Songs for the New World' at The London Palladium on Sunday afternoon and evening Col. I did post a photo on here on Monday comparing the Palladium to an empty open-air Wembley Stadium.

All good mate.
Here in the land of the Oz, we won’t allow terminally ill patients to drive just over the border to see family members as a last request but we will allow movie stars to bring all their friends and family into the state. Gotta keep the dollars flowing in.
