People were **** scared of the NHS being overwhelmed. The Achillies Heel of those criticising lockdown (early lockdown anyway) is that no one knows what would have happened if there had been no lockdown. Sweden is not a good precedent, since London with huge international airport hubs was much more vulnerable.
Had the double whammy Moderna omicron booster jab plus flu jab, one in either arm, yesterday afternoon. Felt fine last night, but achy and shivery today. Still, definitely worth it. Discovered that there are two flu vaccines, one for under sixty fives and one for over. The nurse who gave the jab and the NHS websites are not very clear what the difference is. Given the risk (of flu being deadly) is higher in the more elderly I’m assuming the vaccine for them is more effective,
Well done Sb. Hopefully it will clear quickly and you’ll be back to 100%. I’m baffled by who is actually getting the seasonal booster right now. They seem to still be saying the under 65’s have to wait, yet it seems as though some (who are not in the ‘at risk’ list) are managing to get/book their jabs. I did read the flu jab was to be available for the over 50’s from mid-October, but again this seems to be rolling out already too. All a bit unclear.
My GP practice, pretty useless in all other things, contacted us way back in August to book a double shot slot - I’m 61, Mrs SB is 58. Neither of us are ‘at risk’. My understanding is that everyone over 50 should be getting both jabs. Cases are on the rise again. I doubt it will get anything like as bad as in 2020/21, but if a jab keeps people out of the creaking NHS system we should all be getting one regardless of age. Just taken the dog for a walk and fresh air helps.
Well done and hope you are feeling better this evening. They were quick off the line with vaccines here in France, but it has all gone quiet now and no more talk of boosters. Will see if it picks up again when winter kicks in.
My dear 85 year old Mum spending the night in a Spanish hospital on her holidays and struggling to breathe after testing positive today. The poor woman is petrified. They will not allow any family to visit her. She got all her boosters, wore her mask on public transport, used hand gel on her hands at least 3 times a day. This virus can be a bitch.
Fingers, my heart and my prayers ho out to your mum. She must be so frightened...in a foreign land and so ill. I hope that they can help her and get her home to you soon. Thinking of you finngy. Xx
Sorry to hear Finglas. I hope your Mum improves and fights the virus back. Thoughts and hopes are with you all.
All the best to your ma Fingy. People may downplay the threat of this virus, but it"s still serious to those that are vulnerable. Thankfully they have a lot more knowledge in it"s treatment now, so hopefully they'll have her back on her feet soon
