My wife has just completed 10 days of radiotherapy, which we hope will reduce the need for her to have more chemotherapy, which would be scary given the way it reduces the body’s immunity to virtually nothing. The worst side effect from the radiotherapy has been fatigue, although I believe a tired body might not react as well as a more healthy one, in fighting illness. The speed at which my wife goes from wide awake to out like a light is ridiculous and she actually fell asleep, two days ago, whilst holding a cup of coffee in her lap. Fortunately the hot liquid was prevented from reaching her skin as a result of her wearing a thickish dressing gown, that provided two layers of cover. Because her specialist knows us well, after 6 years, he has actually given her the all clear to fly, should we want to risk it.
Ah bless her, she sounds like a fighter, keep her safe mate ....holidays abroad can wait for now. There are many places in the uk worth visiting, rent a cottage or stay in a caravan or even a b&b on the coast somewhere.
USA poised to pass 150,000 deaths today or tomorrow, with just under 60,000 new cases yesterday. I feel so sorry for that great nation, being ground into the dust by incompetence and idiocy.
Yep and my daughter, husband and grandkids going on holiday today from Georgia...to Florida. Talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire.
The won two beautiful world wars. And they're the envy of the world with their testing. Theyre not quite world leaders in the Corona wars, but they're close; Only the UK and Peru are ahead of them in the deaths per head of population stakes.
In the category of "sports are a thing you can have when you get your **** together": baseball decided to go ahead without putting players in a hermetically sealed bubble. Season started end of last week. Today, it was announced that at least 16 players and staff from one team (the Florida Marlins) have tested positive, and their games are now on hold. I genuinely wonder whether declaring that the NFL season will start only if COVID is drastically reduced might be the only thing to create some sense of urgency in the populace.
It’s quite remarkable that while NBA seem to be getting it so right after real extensive planning and logistics management, MLB are getting it so wrong. The return of PL football over here went off without a hitch too. Athlete concerns were totally allayed quickly, a safe space created for the games and training sessions to happen within and the schedule completed without any issues whatsoever.
Parallels the two leagues, really. The NBA has its flaws but it's a well-run league, and players have a pretty robust union that had a significant hand in shaping how this would play out. There were virtually no fights over the finances because the NBA's collective bargaining agreement pretty well dictated the split of revenues; all of the effort was spent on the logistics. MLB meanwhile spent almost the totality of the lockdown fighting over money, with the league seeing this as an opportunity to claw back a percentage of wages or to possibly create leverage in what is largely expected to be an extremely vicious labour negotiation in less than two years. The financial details weren't resolved until a few weeks ago, and consequently very little thought was put into figuring out how to make it safe, because the rush to get back to playing games didn't really allow something on the scale of the NBA bubble. I suspect the NFL will be an utter ****show. The players have very little power, and the NFL's owners are legendary for taking every chance to squeeze out a few dollars. Given that the NFL season will be getting into swing right as we hit the autumn months, it could get really silly.
Huge playing squads too. Isn’t an NFL squad about 50 players? Much easier for basketball because it’s a drastically smaller footprint.
Swindon is becoming a bit of a hotspot https://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk...le-tested-positive-coronavirus-xpo-logistics/
I'm no defender of Boris Johnson, or the government, far from it in fact ... but those stats are meaningless. England has a higher population, so the chances are of course the numbers will be higher, regardless of leadership or not.
And England has several massive cities with large BAME populations (known to be more susceptible). Whilst not suggesting that they revel in it, Labour must be glad they weren’t having to be responsible for dealing with it...as there is no proof at all that they would have been any better at it....so much learning as you go along with Covid. Just to clarify....not suggesting for one minute that labour wanted the government to fail....no human being would.
Have you seen some of the comments at the end of the article . It’s as bad as the coronavirus thread on the PL board, some people should be embarrassed by the crap they came out with back in February and March
I don’t think anyone is revelling in how badly the Tories have handled the coronavirus, but there is no denying that other countries with similar sized cities, with large BAME communities have handled things better. No one knows if Labour would have handled it better, but I think it’s a given that had they been in control for the last 10 years we would have had a better functioning NHS and Social Care system in place and we would have been working with the EU, not pulling away from them.
Meh, facts and numbers prove nothing. Bellend Boris says everything is cushty! Now theres a man what knows what hes on about!
