We've had 10 confirmed cases (out of ~900k people) since June 1st. In a few days, masks will be mandatory in all indoor public spaces and businesses.

Bit odd that we didn't mandate it weeks ago when we had active cases, but better late than never, especially as there is real concern that students arriving from abroad* will fail to observe quarantine and we'll end up back in the muck again.

*(if 'abroad' sounds like a loaded term, in this case it mostly means 'from the tire fire that is the United States')

You would have 'loved' being here a couple of weeks ago. One of Mrs No7's 'friends' came over for a drink. Was spouting off all night about 5G how it will kill us, and how Coronavirus wasn't real - apparently it is government made to make us so scared we don't go out, then they can inject us with a vaccine with a microchip in us, and then they finally control us. She was dead serious. I was stunned into almost silence (those that know me know that is unusual)

I tried to reason with her and explain about ionising and non-ionising radiation, but 'that is rubbish what the scientists have made you believe all these years'. She then mixed up her conspiracies as said 5G is to spy on us (as some of the masts have cameras on them..a good place to put a camera I pointed out), I said I thought you said 5G was causing coronavirus. After about 30 mins, I asked her if the earth was flat.

"It might be, all we have a doctored pictures that they put out there"

I left after that and went upstairs. I couldn't cope with anymore stupidity.

Interestingly, she hasn't come back. My theory is that she has either been zapped by a 5G laser ray or actually went for a long walk and fell off the edge of the world.

Weirdly I may have had the misfortune of meeting her <laugh>. Some woman came up to me in Poole when I was working on the beach and she just started telling me all this bullshit. Basically what you’ve just written above. I had to walk away and leave my colleague listening to her because she was dead serious and I couldn’t take it

Seeing Johnson making comments about “not understanding about covid-19 in the way they would have liked, in it’s early stages”, is making my blood boil.
He could see what was happening in China, as early as Jan/Feb.
Then he could see the devastation being caused in both Italy and Spain, which gave him enough forewarning to react more quickly than he did.
His own comments made it clear that herd immunity was a preferred choice, and still is in my opinion, which explains the half arsed way he and his government have responded to the virus.
And now the bastard, when asked if he “found it hard to say sorry”, comes out with “I am sorry if I don’t apologise. Put it that way.”
WTAF is that supposed to mean?
4+ more years of this government is unbearable.

I see that holiday makers, returning from Spain, will now have to quarantine for 14 days, which could cause a few problems.
Those who can’t afford to take 2 weeks additional leave, on SSP, might be tempted to ignore the direction. It might also lead to others cancelling holidays and causing more financial issues for the airlines and holiday companies.

As far as I can see, Spain’s increase in new cases relates mainly to 2 regions in the north of the country, where discussions are ongoing with the French with regards to closing the road border.
I put on here a week or two ago about a surge in cases for the (iirc) 20-40 age group, which has been linked to the re-opening of clubs.
Someone in Spain said that new cases there are in the region of 2500 a day, but not masses in the resort areas.
In the UK, the average daily new case figure between 5-18 July was 1884, which has flatlined, with a North/South trend starting, whereby there is a slight growth in the North.

I never understood why people rushed to go abroad again. I decided when we first when into lockdown that I would not travel again till 2021....and then only after i saw what happened to the foolhardy who had already risked it.
We have a holiday that we booked in Jan to Santorini in October. At the moment it looks on, but I wouldn’t be heartbroken if it was cancelled.

TUI cancelled all holidays to mainland Spain for 2 weeks.

All everyone has to do is say they have a holiday home they want to make covid friendly.
That’s how Boris dad got away with it.

I have stored that one up in the memory bank.
Having said that I have far too much respect for other people than to put myself at risk of catching covid and passing it on.
I recently spent two weeks trying to get a key cut for my Spanish property, as locksmiths here don’t tend to carry the blank double sided plates, with a groove in one side. Most I showed it to thought it was a long safe key.
The key has been sent to Spain so that a friend could attend to an in house matter that I would otherwise have had to fly over to deal with.

So far myself and Mrs SR have cancelled 2 holidays abroad.
Instead we have booked a cottage with a hot tub in Staffordshire and then the week after, a caravan in Skegness.
Very happy to holiday in the uk this year, because I have to shield like your wife I wouldn’t feel safe in an airport or on a plane ATM.
