Destroying the World
Most Chinese-financed, coal-fired power plants built overseas use low-efficiency, subcritical coal technology, which produces some of the highest emissions of any form of power generation. Thus, China is destroying the environment.
by Sagatom Saha

China has continually assured the world that its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a green project. At the first BRI forum in May 2017, Chinese president Xi Jinping touted BRI as a “vision of green development and a way of life and work that is green, low-carbon, circular and sustainable.” Similar promises were made at this year’s forum in April. However, China has long been the world’s largest exporter of coal power equipment, exporting twice as much as its nearest competitor. At the same time as the first forum, Chinese companies were building an estimated140 coal plants abroad, including in countries like Egypt and Pakistan that previously burned little to no coal. At the current rate, Chinese coal plant developers will drive energy investments that make it impossible to limit global warming to safe levels. If Chinese development banks continue their current practices, then pollution will inevitably worsen around the world.

That’ll be why GT was speaking at the UN then

I think 2008 put that premise to bed!

The Maldives are an interesting case. They know they are under threat and in the early 2000's they had a policy of encouraging tourism so they could build up a fund which would ultimately allow them to buy land in countries not threatened by flooding where displaced Maldive folk could relocate to. I believe this policy was dropped a few years ago and now they're focusing on recovering sunken land.
I'd thought of 2008 , but I don't think it's the same. Financial markets is more like gambling isn't it and hoping to back a winner? I was hoping the example would show that it was felt there is no gamble or risk involved. Don't the current predictions have Hull as one of the first places to go? I think a similar argument would apply, finance would be hard if not impossible.
On another note, why isn't it mandatory for new builds to have solar panels or geothermal energy connection?

A friend of mine posted this sincerely on my Facebook this morning. I couldn't find the words to respond. Maybe you lot can find them.

This is a great analogy. Archimedes principle indicates that the FLOATING ice will displace water roughly equal to the volume of the ice, which is slightly less dense than the water. So the water will NOT rise.

Ok now lets try another thought experiment. Put the same amount of ice in the just with the same amount of water. Now above the just place 50 times the amount of ice in a really big funnel so that as it melts the water runs into the jug.

Now what happens as the ice begins to melt? The jug is going to over flow by quite a bit!

There is 50 times the ice not floating as floating. By which I mean sitting on the continental shelf.

This is a great example of people using correct science to illustrate the wrong point.

The flat earthers are genius at it. Anyone here think the earth is flat....someone who used to post did.

Agree, it's scandalous that it isn't.

Where does the 50 times extra ice come into it , not sure I follow you?
