I think your issue stems from assuming a political slant to opinions on science, and I think that's where some of the 'blindness' arises on both sides. I don't see anyone making Party Political points on this thread, and mainstream parties share similar views anyway.

It sounds more like an excuse to try to get the conversation shut down.
My point is the conversation WAS shut down by the mods when the government were coming under flak on Covid. This conversation is being allowed to flourish even though it largely divides down party political lines, even if people don’t specifically state that allegiance in their posts. It’s also a very political issue the Tories are trying to take advantage of. So a prominent conversation disadvantageous to our Tory government was shut down by the mods, but a prominent conversation advantageous to the Tories is being allowed to flourish. I find that curious to say the least.

The government got loads of flack on the COVID thread and it wasn’t closed and the comments weren’t removed (as long as they stuck to the issue), your claim simply isn’t true.

how is the government making a policy "taking advantage of"
but when Labour make a policy it's not "taking advantage of" ?

What's political about caring about the planet you live on and doing your bit to try and ensure it remains habitable?

we have had to put up with the hysteria about the planet "remaining habitable" for 50 years without any of the predictions coming true

Yes,and any small things we do to ensure that continues will be advantageous to our off-spring and those who follow on from them?

I don't buy into mass hysteria but I believe if things continue as they are at the moment, the planet will suffer further.

I'm not talking about ripping out my boiler and freezing to death in the winter. If the government or any future government want to spend £14k to replace my boiler with a heat pump,my door is open(I certainly can't afford it).

I'm simply pointing out that I firmly believe in moderation when it comes to Gas or Electric usage,I'm also a great advocate of taking ownership of my own responsibility in regard to recycling and zero littering.

Our oceans are full of human and plastic waste,it's unacceptable and if we all pull in the same direction with these simple things then we are giving the planet a reasonable chance of a future.

I agree there's things we can do but it's spoilt by those trying to spread fear

Conversation. That is how I have read the comments, and read them with no political bias. It has been a mostly polite exchange of views, compared say, to any match day thread.

I agree.

The media are pushing a hard narrative that in some ways blames or places the onus on us all for having to keep warm in the winter months.it should be far more focused on naming and shaming the real culprits and Countries responsible for excessive pollution.

As for our oceans,I find it a sad state of affairs that our rivers and oceans are becoming so polluted that it's fast becoming a health risk going for a dip or eating a slice of fish!!

I see no apathy on this thread?Varying degrees of concern maybe..

Admitting no idea how to solve the problem or showing the cause and effect of proposed solutions, is not apathy.

Back to your comments on oceanic pollution. In the seventies, early eighties when I was at sea, everything, and I mean everything "went over the side". Explained away to an incredulous grandson as "that was before the enviroment was invented".

I was referring to Peter's own comments specifically, some of which are on this page.

This is when the thread I was referring to - an early thread on Covid - was closed.

"Admin have been having discussions, and each of us has had to do bits of housekeeping on this thread when it's drifted to politics or personal comments rather than information or discussion of virus related issues, and there's always the danger it spills into other threads, so we've decided to social distance this thread for a yet to be determined period.

The football related thread is still open for discussions on the impact on football.

That post was on page 350 of that thread, we hardly rushed to close did we?

It had numerous political posts that had nothing to do with Covid, which we'd had to keep deleting all the time and frankly, we've better things to do with our time. It had run its course, it was the right time to close it.
