Not so good for your heating bill or carbon footprint thoughThis rain has been grim. Better cold and snowy conditions that we used to have

In the very long term this country could end up colder than New York. It's the Gulf Stream that keeps us warm, and that is running down. I don't expect this to be in my lifetime, but it just shows how unpredictable the slow process is. The worst sufferers atm are low-lying Pacific Islands, which are being hit by rising sea levels.I can’t keep up.
February and there’s unusual blizzards and two feet of snow in New York but we’ve got 16C and warm, pleasant sunshine on Wednesday.
Climate change or just the statistical inevitability of picking particular weather events to fit your viewpoint ?
If it is climate change then we in the UK are being dealt a very good hand with these much milder winters we have now.
This is the bit that worries me the most as we in the UK are screwing ourselves by heading in one direction when it could be the wrong direction. In the very long term this country could end up colder than New York. My step-brother is a geologist. Maybe he could answer that but he lives in Australia. This is the bit that worries me the most as we in the UK are screwing ourselves by heading in one direction when it could be the wrong direction.
And, genuine question, when sea levels were much, much higher in the past, long before anything to do with human actions (think of the white cliffs of Dover being the sea bed) where were those Pacific Island then ?
Good point @lardiman - I hadn’t remembered that.The Pacific Islands are volcanic.
They have only appeared in very recent geological time.
I think Hawaii is one of the oldest, but it's only been there a few million years.
There’s no room left now let alone in 100 years - thank god my toes would have curled up by then !Most people living on recently formed Islands are in rather more danger from volcanic eruptions than rising sea levels methinks.
Sea levels rise relatively slowly.
Granted, Tsunamis can devastate Islands & coastlines. But they are usually caused by undersea Earthquakes.
A phenomenon related to volcanic activity.
Rising sea levels will wipe out many Island Nations eventually. Maybe a Century from now.
The English speaking ones would have a fair claim for asylum here in my view, as they will have been Colonies of the Empire at some point.
With that in mind sounds like we should take the climate crisis seriouslyThere’s no room left now let alone in 100 years - thank god my toes would have curled up by then !
Indeed. I've been taking it seriously for over 40 years now, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to enjoy life. You can only do so much to minimise your contribution to pollution and climate change, but I do wish that interest in environmental affairs was more mainstream. With that in mind sounds like we should take the climate crisis seriously
Don’t know which party you’d now vote for if you ‘take the climate crisis seriously’.Indeed. I've been taking it seriously for over 40 years now, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to enjoy life. Apart from Reform, who are Deniers, there's nothing to choose between the other parties, so it needn't be a factor in casting a vote.Don’t know which party you’d now vote for if you ‘take the climate crisis seriously’.
I’m afraid The Greens have just become an extreme left wing ideology party now. They’ve been hijacked by Polanski and his like.
Yes. That’s Reform (lights the touch paper and steps back).Wouldn't it be nice to have an honest Party.
Here's what we need to fix.
Here's what it's going to cost.
Here's how long it will take.

He doesn’t need to. It’s the mark of an honest and good politician that he can put the interests of the country before his own personal beliefs. Shame other politicians can’t do the same.Hitler did it for Germany. I doubt that Nige has the kahunas.
Still, his chum Yusuf made me laugh today talking about Reform returning the UK to Christian values
Perhaps he can lead the way by converting.

They would never get electedWouldn't it be nice to have an honest Party.
