City Ulltras

The Ulltras are not a formal organisation, they're just a bunch of City fans doing what they can to make home games more like away games, for which they should be commended.

Anyone who thought that a cabaret act would suddenly appear in the East Stand on a Saturday has misunderstood the aim. The aim is to get a bunch of like minded fans in one area of the ground, ideally in unreserved seating in the new look North Stand.

Fortunately, the club are taking this far more seriously than some on here, the atmosphere at the KC is ****, the club want to help improve things, based on some of the comments on this thread, they've got an uphill battle.

How many of them are there?

I sat in E3 for the first time in a long while on saturday, despite the atmosphere still been **** there was a distinct presence of arsehole about my immediate vicinity. One lad threatened to "deck me" for singing how **** must you be we're winning at home, before spending the rest of the game talking to his girlfriend.

I use to love home games, don't get me wrong I still do but the atmosphere is awful, where the hell is the logic that our 1000 regular traveling away clan easily out perform our home crowd. It's utter madness.

I agree. But isn't that the same everywhere you go though? I mean, everyone says standing will bring back the atmosphere, but the Peterborough crowd were dreadful. I didn't hear a peep out of them all match.

Atmosphere will come if the singers are up for it and have been put together, like on an away day. At the KC and most grounds they're far too spread out.

Very few good atmospheres are unorganized. Surely in the 70s, 80s and even beyond at Boothferry Park, there used to be a 'conductor' type who led the chants among the Hull fans? This is how the continental ultras do it too with a capo as they call it, and the other English clubs who have a decent range of chants tend to come up with them on the websites and when supporters groups meet in their designated pub. In the old days before Sky ruled football (not that I was around then), Leeds fans were 'led' by a bunch called the Kippax, and later on by a guy called Collar.

If you reintroduced terracing, 90% of stadiums' atmospheres wouldn't improve hugely, but if the fans were orchestrated, it really, really would. Even without terracing, you can still get a half-decent atmosphere. That's why the numbers in the Ulltras group are important if it's to succeed. They should really get a website or some pub meets too so everyone gets to know each other and chants can spread easier.

Don't know why I just gave such a long-winded response about the fans of a club I don't support! <laugh>

We have a few chants that are lead by a conductor then the rest join in.

Think with the Ultra groups you'll still get the same cross over chants, like you get now and you'll get even more European influences in song choice. Can't be arsed with drums, goal music or even ****e chants like "we love you, we love you, woah woah" or the ****in poznan.

I agree with you about drums and **** (would have given you some rep if it still existed!), but I mean with the capo type, they're actually stood facing the fans rather than the pitch when they start the songs, and in Europe they have a megaphone or microphone so that thousands can hear them rather than hundreds. I imagine at the KC, it's just another fan facing the pitch who's doing it. At Palace last season, they had three or four lads who all took it in turns to do this 'capoing' and then returned to the stands to watch the game after their 'shift' was over.

If the Ulltras could get permission from your owner (who I gather is a supportive sort of chap anyway) to use that sort of equipment, that should be something they ought to look into. If the Ulltras actually got a website and had a membership scheme, they could raise some money to do banners too. Would be nice to visit the KC later this season and get some proper banter from your fans. <ok>

I don't know who the Ulltras are, or how many of them there are, I just agreed to post their statements on here, just as the other Admin's/Moderators have on all the City boards.

At away games there a bunch of lads that get most of the chants going, but at home games they're all spread out and apart from the odd group in E1-E3, it's difficult to get anything going. I know the club are completely on board with the idea, if they can shift the away fans to the North East or North West corners(subject to Cooper and OB actually getting on board with the shift), then the North would be the singing section, ideally with unreserved seating and with stewards told not to make people sit down.

Frankly, there's a long way to go, but at least someone is trying and for that, they get my support.

The idea of the Ulltras sounds cracking, atmosphere seems to be a dying thing in football (just like it seems to be slowly turning into a non-contact sport). The atmosphere really needs a boost in the KC instead of the South East corner singing "we're south stand hull city/we're east stand hull city" cos that makes me cringe.

I don't know who the Ulltras are, or how many of them there are QUOTE]

The original 'Ulltras idea was conceived by one person, who arranged a meeting with about 14 other like minded people.
These people all particpate in arranging groups who travel to the away games outside of Tiger Travel and are generally the 'Conductors' of the songs sang at away games.
Let us be clear though that there is no other motive behind this other than to raise the atmosphere at the K C Stadium, before some of our other 'fans' claim to be 'Ulltras the next time they wreck a pub!

'Ulltras are Hull City fans who want to stand and sing as mentioned in numerous other threads regarding this topic.
If you want to find the 'Ulltras then look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself
"Am I going to sing at the game today?"
If the answer is yes, then you have found an 'Ulltra!
As far a the 'Ulltras flag goes, this is a rallying point for fans where un-reserved seating is permitted, so at this time there won't be any rallying point of congregation at the K C Stadium.
For the club to take this whole concept to the next level, then we as fans, need to show them that we want it too.
This will only be achieved by people participating in singing etc instead of looking for someon else to do it for them!!

That is correct, but like other people have said, some people won't try starting chants because people around them complain at times.

Democracy is formed by the majority speaking in unison.
If 50 people won't stand and sing because they might offend 3 people then the whole ideology will never happen.
Do you think the numerous other groups in history who have wanted to achieve something for the greater good have cared whether they upset someone?
In short the answer is a resounding "NO".
Unreseved seating will give the people who want to sing the opportunity to do so, but in the time until this happens, those that want to sing, should be allowed to do so!
Those that complain can always move seats!!

Don't worry, I'm all up for the idea, and I'm always singing my heart out at City, wether I'm at a home game or an away game, but I just know for a fact, that some people won't sing because of the people around them. Hence the reason the atmosphere isn't as good as it could definately be at fortress KC.

People should sing if they want to sing, it's a football ground not a library!
