“I think you’ll find that centre-forwards, the prices that are involved, are the dearest ones,” said Adkins, whose side rounds off pre-season with a trip to Barnsley tomorrow. “You have to get it right. The good ones are at a premium. It’s clear to see that we’re trying to improve all aspects of our game and the squad we’ve got. “We can talk about bids that have gone in for players and been publicly turned down, but maybe we’ve had bids in for other players that no-one knows about. "Sometimes you’ve got to realise that you can’t get anywhere near the demands that are out there and you have to move on quickly.” “I’d like to think we’re going to keep improving on what we’re doing but likewise they’ve got to be the right ones,” said Adkins. “Look at last year and we scored more goals than the club had done in the last 10 years. I want to see us scoring a lot of goals but we need clean sheets as well. We conceded far too many goals and if we want to be successful, you’ve got to be solid and resolute. “We’re building that foundation but likewise goals are what needs to be seen. Sometimes they’re hard to get.”
Nothing because he probably wouldn't have signed it. He'll hold out for more plus a massive signing on fee.
£40,000 a week for 3 years is £6,240,000. £2million plus £20,000 a week for 3 years is £5,120,000. £3million plus £20,000 a week for 3 years is £6,120,000. So unless you envisage Ehab paying more than £20,000 a week in wages pkus as much as we have spent on 5 players so far in total it wouldn't happen. And, as OLM says, it is tueoretical anyway as Hernandez wouldn't have accepted it anyway. He was on £35,000 and our "fantastic offer" to persuade himmto staybwas for less,
that's the new Ehab strategy "pay players less than they are on now and they'll be queuing up to play for us" Ehab is a whacky guy with whacky ideas
Surely it's pointless considering he was angling for a lot more though? How much would a 40k a week contract for Messi have cost..? Edit. Should have probably refreshed the thread and seen another 4 comments saying the same.
Was he? If so then fair enough, I was trying to make the point that generally retaining players is cheaper than churning through new ones. A player of his caliber would cost us silly money to buy.
Oh definitely. I've always thought Hernandez would leave as soon as his contract expired, from when he first joined. He never fully looked happy/comfortable.
Conor Townsend is about to become a Baggie, Scunny have apparently accepted a bid and he'll move over the weekend.
Dissappointing. Would like to have seen him return. How the heck could we lose out on him? Or were we only in it to drive up the price for our sellon clause?
