Can't read that link for some reason Peter.
I remember Mablethorpe. Just north of Skegness. Worked there at Butlins just before I sloped off to Leeds in the early 60's. Suspect housing there is in the doldrums also.
Where's Mapleton ? I was born in Hornsea...which suffered bad coastal erosion when I was a kid.

Mapleton's been on the edge for years. It Always used to be on Calendar & Look North when I was a kid. Completely forgot about it TBH. I seem to recall a main road was closed with a huge crack in it & later ended up in the sea!

Finally got to the link & the pics. Spent a lot of time at Spurn Point....in fact was last there about 5 years ago. Many happy childhood memories recalled.
Mablethorpe was also a rather strange, quite famous artist in the states - a close friend of Patty Smith, the singer & poet/author. Hung around with Warhol & his cronies in New York. Smith wrote an interesting book about their relationship.
Weird it was.

Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe
I think Patti Smith is still hot at 68

Mapleton is near Hornsea. The coastal erosion is getting worse.
I think house prices go up over a long period of time but footballers contracts are relatively short so we should look at house prices over a shorter term too.
I think the other point is that, except for goalkeepers, you are not limited to one player at a time - you still need a sub though - so it is more reasonable to have many more than one in your possession - unlike houses.[

Don't think these two points have any relevance to the point I was trying to get over to SydneyTiger .

I was responding to people suggesting that with players, like many other assets in your life, be it a car, house, whatever, you sell before you buy, which I disagreed with.

You must be very wealthy. Are you related to Tickler?
Most of us in the real World have to sell before we can buy, or at least line up a buyer.

So you quit your job, then sit at home looking for a new one? You sell your car, then spend a couple of weeks figuring out which car you want?

Now you are being silly. How many homes, cars and jobs have you had?

I'm not being silly at all. I've had several jobs, and a couple of cars. As I'm a uni student I don't own a house yet.

I have never once been willingly out of work, as I've always had my next job lined up before quitting my previous one.

Why would we sell Hernandez or Jela, and not have someone lined up to replace them, particularly when we know someone could trigger their buy out at any time?

I think the car and job analogies are red herrings.
We all understand the risks with transfers, buyouts and the window so we can limit the discussion to that.
