It's a bad comparison, as Jay Simpson managed a bare 1in3 in just one of his seasons, but take a look at the consistency of Gray as he progresses. You keep saying he might not for us, but can't you say that for everyone?
No one, except you, has mentioned anything about not getting him being the end of the world, although quite a few, me included, have said it would now be bloody stupid and it would. Get the bugger in!

Agreed. If we wait until a player is regularly banging them in before we sign them, they'll be 27, cost $25m, and be targeted by the Arsenals and Chelseas of the world!

Dunno if he has a chant yet, but one that I thought might go alright:

(To the tune of The Flintstones)

Chuba, Chuba Akpom
He's the greatest forward in the league,
From a small club in London,
He left to join the Ull City
And he'll go down in historyyy

I think we'll save them for when Hells-Bells runs the next crossbar challenge! It will have been a long journey home for them all, wondering what the hell they were playing at. Fair does to Accrington Stanley, though.
Do you think we will ever do things the easy way, Peter?

I think Brentfords resolve might be broken soon. Gray without asking for a transfer has alienated fans and frustrated management by his mentally not right stance. There are no other clubs in at the price we have offered & for the sake of 500k they may be about to blink first. Dangerous game to play though.

People have mentioned for the sake of 500k just get it done. It probably wouldn't even take that - another 250k upfront or in add-ons would allow Brentford to save face.

I bought some garden furniture for about £1,000 yesterday. Can you imagine what people would have thought if I'd spent weeks trying to get a £50 discount!?

Furniture equipment isn't a human being who there is some margin of error in terms of expected performance.

Also in play is the fact that Brentford will need to find a replacement. This could work both ways however; on one hand they will not want to miss out on their targets and on the other they may feel time is getting too short to find a replacement and hold on to Gray - I think the former is more likely.

I agree. Does that mean we should haggle more or less then?

A £9 million package is a lot of money and had made a lot of people sit up and take notice...a £9.5 million bid won't change the fact that it's a lot of money - but it will just get it done!

Presumably more, as the unreliable expected returns mean very different market values based on different perspectives.
But if our perspective was that expected returns were more than Brentford's perspective then there would be no need to haggle. We would think he was worth more than Brentford thought he was worth. Isn't that just as likely as vice versa?
