All this McShane talk has got me thinking: what would your City cult heroes XI be from the time you've been watching them? Doesn't have to be picked on merit.

Mine is:

Fettis
Palmer McEwan Skipper Jobson Dawson
Windass Ashbee Brabin
Brown Whitehurst

Mess with that midfield at your peril!

Subs: Wilson, Whittle, Norton, Roberts, Askew, Mutrie, Edwards

Norman

Nisbet Roberts Whittle Haigh

Elmo Roberts Ashbee Marwood

Mutrie Whitehurst

Wilson, Joseph, Holt, Elliott, Askew, Windass, Altidore

Myhill

Graham
Goodison
Whittle
Dawson

Barmby
Ashbee
Whitmore
Elliott

Windass
Brown

Subs: Geovanni, Fettis, Peacock, Darby, Rosenior, Dewhirst, Brabin

Manager: Warren Joyce

Physio: Jeff Radcliffe

McKechnie
Elmo McEwan Whittle Davidson
Windass Roberts (G) Ashbee Butler (I)
Wagstaff Chilton

Norman, Jobson, Mutrie, Edwards, Whitmore, Elliott, Askew

Who were them 2 hard bastards we had in defence during the great escape? Jason Perry and AN Other, maybe signed from Lincoln. Theyd be in.

Its impossible to have a cult XI without Ash and Billy.

From my era (ie. not including players I've never seen in amber and black....Carter, Davidson, Jensen etc)

Norman

Nisbet McEwan Skipper DeVries

Marwood Windass Ashbee Galvin

Edwards Chilton

subs: Fettis, Roberts, Wagstaff, Mutrie, Jobson, Geovanni, Elliott

Norman

Rosey Whittle Skipper B McNeil

Askew Ashbee G Roberts Marwood

Edwards Whitehurst

Subs: Myhill Mutrie K Francis Brabin C Davies Jobson Elliott

Myhill
Rosenior Chester McShane Dawson
Garcia Ashbee Barmby Elliott
Geovanni
Windass

Bit of an attacking midfield but still. We seem to have loads of what I'd call cult heroes in defence but not much in CM or up front (Ashbee and Windass apart) Davies and Elmo would be on the bench.

Norman

Nisbet Roberts Whittle Haigh

Elmo Roberts Ashbee Marwood

Mutrie Whitehurst

Wilson, Joseph, Holt, Elliott, Askew, Windass, Altidore

John or Dale?

I hope Joseph's inclusion is as tongue-in-cheek as Altidore's.

Dale.

I liked Joseph & Altidore.

Think there's more players from my youth as you tend to look for heroes as a youngster yet become more cynical as you age & look for faults.

Ian McKechnie(gk)

Charlie Palmer Billy Baxter John Kaye Andy Dawson

Elmohamady Jimmy McGill Ken Knighton Ian Butler(*)

Billy Whitehurst Dean Windass

Whilst not the most talented (* apart) nobody would mess with this lot. 6 of them make Vinnie Jones look like a pussy. Cult heroes for sure. imo.

subs:- Tony Norman - Ian Ashbee - Pete Skipper - Chris Chilton - Ken Wagstaff - Stuart Elliott - Ken Houghton. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

In no order, the players who linger in my memory are

Tony Norman
Emlyn Hughes
Hobson - class mate
jobson
Windass
Marwood
Barmby - school mate
Andy Payton
Ash
Dawson

And a special mention to Matt Hopkin.
Nod to Liam cooper who I watched at Anfield when we were wupped. Taught by my brother.
And Tom Cairney who got me a squad signed shirt when he was just breaking through.
And that's not counting the current crop...

Myhill
Rosey Whittle Turner Dawson
Elmo Barmby Ashbee Elliot
Brown Windass

I used to like Duane Darby anarl when I was knee high to a grass hopper but Windass was always my favourite and I was always singing knees up Linton Brown so he just gets the nod.
