I don't think Pye has gone yet, not according to Parkinson. He said it's possible but hasn't happened yet.
True, but its not this one particular case that is my main concern. It would be damaging if we ended up with a handful of academy's in two or three locations across the country, run for the sole benefit of the big six, and sadly this is how it looks to be going atm.
I was agreeing with much of what you said then you went and spoiled it all by being, not just wrong, but way, way out. How was Shack poached. He had been put on the Transfer list by his Club, NUFC. Lots of Clubs were in for him and he was, in effect, auctioned off to the highest bidder. That was us. With a group of Club reps sat in an office inside SJP, each was being invited in to make his pitch. When the Sunderland Rep came out after his turn he casually mentioned to the rest that he had just made a WORLD RECORD offer of over £20,000. They all just left knowing that they couldn't beat that. So we got Shack for a bargain £20,050. Not my idea of poaching.
No im not having that like. Hes not exactly tall and hes built like a Jockeys whip. I see lots of 16 year old lads in the gym etc built alot bigger than alot of blokes. Rooney was a big lad when he made his debut for Everton.
Brandon Taylor and Jack Bainbridge are not seen as the assets that they are by this regime, like Bali, Robson and Embleton we need to get them involved with the first team squad or they will be off, and who can blame them.
According to the Sun Manure are prepared to offer Pye a five year contract in a bid to stop his proposed move to Arsenal. knowing the Sun that could just be Pye in the sky
I get that same old feeling every time we lose a talented younsgter. please log in to view this image
We can't change the system, so we need to look at what we can do differently. The way I see it, the only thing that can give is an edge over bigger clubs is giving these kids a clear path to the first team. But right now, our most talented youth are showing that the pathway is not there. Embleton is 21 next month, has represented England up to under 20 level and yet has barely kicked a ball for us. Mumba is 18 and in a very similar situation. If we can't offer them first team football, why would they choose us instead of a better club? Our ownership right now are saying the right things about our academy, but they're not actually following through with positive action.
The whole situation with the youngsters seems to be a huge mess. Some Clubs have huge groups of kids signed from all over the World. Plainly only a very few can make it as Pro's. Even fewer as top Pro's. Yet each of these youngsters THINKS that their whole reason for living is to make it to the top. Imagine the disappointment that lies ahead for the majority. My solution is one that the 'bigger Clubs' would kill off at birth, but it could work. Restrict ALL football league clubs to a set number of trainee's.
Absolutely right! From coaching my son's team for 8 years, I saw hundreds of young lads picked up by pro scouts of the 3 top NE clubs (and 2 picked up by City scouts!). At every point their dreams had all come true. Some of them are 16/17 now with littel to no education and no job and no want to be educated! Literally put all of their eggs in the football basket and "failed" It's so difficult to tell kids that they need something to fall back on when the clubs used to be so intent on giving them a football career! I don't know if it's as bad now as it was then, but if I had anyone in the club wanting to go into pro football, I'd make sure they knew the risks and had some sort of back up plan
