I reckon Burgess was just playing it safe on his debut, nothing worse than dropping a clanger in your first match. Here's to hoping he settles in nicely

Unfortunately, those defenders who are comfortable with the ball tend to move up the leagues pretty quickly, leaving no nonsense players for the rest of us.
Exactly Bigal, these boys think we should have Pique and Stones at the back but a quality ball playing CB who is a bloody good defender too costs a fortune and would not drop down to league one.
Yorkie/Saff, did you watch the game? Obviously not coz Burgess was passing across the back etc quite well, he hoofed when necessary, which i have no probs with.
Yorkie you bring up Beattie, did you ever see him play, i did every week and trust me, when he needed to hoof he would, not only that...someone of his quality would be way out of our reach

Nobody has said that. There's ball playing centre backs in this division, we have them because of our style of play. They aren't the best defenders in the world but they're more than good enough for league one.
No, I didn't watch your game. I've already said that I was commenting in general and not talking about your individual players.
I'm disagreeing that this league doesn't have ball playing centre backs. I've seen them with other teams. It's crazy to suggest that every defender in this league just hoofs the ball away because none of them can play football. I'm sure if that was your style of play, defenders could be coached to be more comfortable on the ball.

I thought Burgess looked great against Cheltenham, if he plays like that every week we've got a great player on our hands and one who yes hoofed it but certainly didn't look uncomfortable on the ball when under pressure.
It's all fair and good having a ball playing CB but first and foremost they must be a good defender, secondly they must be comfortable on the ball but that's different to being a ball playing CB, some CBs terrify me when they're on the ball and just look like a mistake waiting to happen, I didn't think Burgess looked like one of those and hopefully he'd be the player to bring the best out of Woolfenden.

There is definitely an element of truth that our best youth talent is being poached but I hope to God it’s not the case that Paul Cook and his team are not scouting and turning down players on the basis that “he’s too good. We need to find average at best players who will want to stay at the club.”
