We bought a new Karoq dsg . Wish I had gone manual . Easy to drive , just don’t have that total control . Probably change it in 2 years anyway .
Bigger is the thing. Got three kids so need the space. Never had a 3 so can't comment, but I wouldn't look past this for a car in its class. Idea is keep for another four year cycle and see where I am then. Might go for a smaller one as my eldest will be off at college or have a job by then!
not a true manual if you become pedantic, which I am known for...... I still prefer wiggle stuck/clutch over the semi auto stuff
For me it depends what sort of car you’re driving. My Touareg is an auto and it suits it perfectly, because it’s a big torquey unit that hugs the road and is built for luxury and comfort. If I was driving a Golf or similar, I’d definitely go for a manual to get that more connected driver experience, when you want to chuck it round the corners.
Im lucky enough not to live in a city or big town, so (summer aside when the roads are clogged with caravans) there are some great open roads, which make for some good fun driving. But yeah if I was driving in commuter traffic every day, I’d just want something economical that got me from A to B
A flappy paddle DSG does both. The box changes quicker than a human, it’s only limitation is that it can’t see corners coming, so if you’re thrashing a Golf R or similar then you just override it with the paddles when you feel like.
You're living in London though. I simply didn't bother owning a car when I lived there as public transport is so good. A car is just a pain in the arse. I'd usually do a couple of trips down to Cornwall or the west country each year though. And I'd buy a cheap old banger, like £200 job (This is back in the early 90's) not bother to tax or insure it, use it for a couple of weeks and then sell it on when I got home
If you come up here before October let me know, and you can buy my vintage 3 Series. It has to go due to the ULEZ extension, which means it would cost me £12 a day. Bit gutted tbh.
It’s a Y Plate, 2001. 25,000 on the clock (genuine), and it’s in factory condition. One previous owner, an old man who hardly ever drove it. I bought it off the son when the old man died two years ago.
