I see what you're saying, but if goals are not coming from those midfielders getting opportunities from his build up/hold up play it's time to address it and with N.O. crocked, we have no logical alternative - maybe that's why Jerome's not getting subbed? :emoticon-0112-wonde

CC, we all appreciate and understand what you are saying and agree with it, our main gripe however, is that when gifted golden chances for himself, he is far too wasteful on those occasions! <ok>

As you've said canario, CJ didn't have one of his better games yesterday and how Stiepermann managed to miss so badly after an excellent pass from CJ - goodness only knows.
I completely agree that maybe it's time for Josh to spend some time on the bench - can Wildschut play on the left; or play Husband at LB and Stiepermann further forward??

Edit - I'm off for some late summer sun next week, so I'm passing over the 'MDT baton for the next 2 games at least!!'

You can't possibly say that ...and not qualify where you're off to? :emoticon-0112-wonde

Pretty sure Jerome is playing because we only have 2 strikers and 1 is injured ?

    Turgutreis - All Inclusive and I quite like Efes!! <cheers> <cheers> <cheers>

Today’s offering from Gary Gowers on MFW and sorry ILD, but I didn’t think the game was boring yesterday - http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter...at-least-now-the-base-is-solid/#comment-17759
I particularly liked this excerpt -
“That two thirds of the team is functioning like a well-oiled machine right now has to be a good thing; that the attacking third is struggling to break teams down at Carrow Road is, at the moment, the payback. But it’s one that’s worthy and at least means there is a solid base from which the team is performing. Boro will naturally be a massive test and will be a good barometer of progress but to progress from the nightmares of Millwall and Villa to where we are now in a very short space of time is no mean feat.”

I'd quite like to see Wildschut on the right, and then 2 from Hoolahan, Maddison and Vrancic. Josh to come on against a tired FB.

I think Oliveira has shown he can play as a lone striker this season, I was impressed with him in that role against Birmingham. And like Jerome, both get into wider areas to help build attacks. Given Oliveira's pre-season injury, Farke's apparent reluctance to risk players fitness, and the Fulham spat I'm not sure we can read into the teamsheets this season to definitively say Jerome is preferred. I'd expect Oliveira to come back in when he's fit, particularly with our current impotence up front.

As to the wider issue of our strikers, I think Farke is content that both Oliveira and Jerome can be used in his system. There's no way we'd have gone into this season with only one striker he trusted. Even if it was a BuLi.2 backup, I think there'd have been someone.

So this is what Farke had to say about of inability to score

"There were two teams facing each other in really good shape - Bristol [City] have only lost once in 11 games and were in really good shape. We didn’t give away one chance in the whole game and they’ve scored, I think, 15 times this season so we were brilliant defensively".

“Especially in the first half, we had a lot of chances. [Cameron] Jerome missed in the first two minutes and he was unlucky that it wasn’t a goal. Then, he had an offside situation which was really doubtful.

“We then had two 100% chances through Mario Vrancic and Marco Stiepermann so when you face an opponent in such good shape, you have to make the most of these situations.

“They defended with all their guys in front of the box in the second half and we tried everything. You always have to be awake on the counter but we have to be content with another clean sheet.

“Today, to be honest, I’m a little bit sad we didn’t get the three points. We deserved to have the three points and needed to be a little better in finishing situations.”

Maybe he was content with his 2 main options for his system, but his system has been ripped up and the new one is struggling for goals.

    Bah!

That has to be one of the best comments I've seen in a long time general. <applause>

DF (of Archant) makes a valid point in his article today - http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwic...ter-scheme-of-norwich-city-s-season-1-5207923
I certainly didn't see it as a boring game and as he says, Bristol thrashed Derby last weekend, so to limit them to so few chances is a success.

Edit - I loved this comment from Martin Penney in today's offering on MFW - "And as for the few (luckily, very few) idiots having a go at Josh Murphy: please desist as it says more about you than it does about him."

True, it was very different to the Burton snooze fest the previous week, when they showed early on they'd come for a 0-0 and we couldn't break them down. Still grieves me to think about that Steipermann miss from 4 yards which would have been enough to upset the Bristol apple cart.
Never mind, we go again tomorrow - to a ground where we haven't won since 1988, I believe <yikes>

From Michael Bailey's '6 things we learned' column today:

The Canaries’ defensive improvement really is remarkable, given just how poor they looked just last month. It’s a stark change and it’s a timely one too.
But it’s not enough, is it? Four successive clean sheets in the league for the first time in 16 years – yet consecutive goalless home draws for the first time outside the top flight since 1921. Defence sorted, now people are realising the goals have dried up.

Clean sheets can protect games / points, but they don't win them.
Out. Fingers. Pull, NCFC forward players - including YOU, Jerome! <ok>

Early updates from today's presser - Vrancic (calf) ruled out. Stiepermann (calf) very little chance, but Basil looking good to at least travel.

The most important one there is definitely Basil, we really need him. Husband after a shaky start has looked better with the newly found solidity and was suffering as much as anyone with our under protected backline. So I think we'll cope at LB, Vrancic has done very little so far in league games, so if JM starts instead and Wildshutt also plays, I think we'll be much better for it. It feels like we have reasonable depth through the squad and if we can find a way of openning up teams set on defending for 90 (I know they all want to be able to defend for 90, just some come with ambition to do a bit more than that!) then we really will be in with a shout at promotion.

    Bah!

I agree and Widschut has looked very impressive when he's come on as a sub, though haven't seen him play a full 90 minutes yet.
As CJ said in his presser, probably our toughest game to date.
