On Cambiasso i think Ranieri did the right think in not letting Cambiasso drag it on any longer

Yes its a shame he hasnt signed again but we have the money and time to get players in to replace him

Cambiasso will go down as one of the legends of the game and i will always be grateful for what he did for us because without him i think we would be playing in the Championship

Ranieri pretty much said on RL that he won't be able to replace Cambiasso with a player of similar quality, calling him one of the best in the world. He implied his replacement would be younger.

You don't think the departure of a world class player with no obvious replacement currently at the club is a blow to our hopes of survival? OK. Genuinely wish I had your optimism!

It's not disrespectful to anyone; losing any of our key players - Vardy, Schlupp, Mahrez, Huth - would be a massive blow too.

I've never seen a player at our club turn defending into attack so effectively as Cambiasso. I think we'd have gone down without him, and I think we'll go down this coming season if we don't replace him. I understand what Proud is saying about us not necessarily needing a player of his standard - most of our relegation rivals won't have players like him either - but we will need better than we have now. A lot better.
Don't get me wrong, losing any player of his ability and influence is not desirable, but my point is that I don't think that should make us fear for survival this season. We have brought in good players over the summer. And maybe, and this is only a suggestion, Drinkwater (who, for me, didn't really kick on last season) might not have been able to express himself as much when Cambiasso was the key man in the midfield, and that might inspire him to perform better this season.

Sad to see him go after last season but at his age we would surely have only got one more anyway so at best same problem this time next year. I think Ranieri has done well to bring it to a head and now wait to see who comes in. On a different note Wes is still playing for Jamaica so no summer off for him. Hope that doesn't bite us later.

Glad that EC has made his position clear as I have wondered if we have agreed fees for players eg Kante, but have held off discussing personal terms til we knew what EC was going to do. Think we might see some movement now over the next week - just a guess. Kante, Mendy, Ake and Romeu have all had mentions over recent days/weeks. Be interesting to see who we eventually bring in.

As good as he was, and I wish he had stayed on,he is past his very best as a footballer. Off the top of my head I'll throw in - Banks, Shilton, Nish, Cross, Mclintock, Weller, Worthington, Gibson, Sep Smith, Rowley, Lineker, Chandler, Whitworth, Black - as contenders for City's best ever.

None of them reached the heights that Cambiasso did during his career. Lineker achieved success with England and Barcelona but the rest didnt achieve world wide acclaim like Cambiasso has

Yes his best days was spent at Inter but he still brought alot to our club.

The point im making is we cant use Cambiasso as the yard stick for new players because we will never replace him with someone on his level. Just as you cant compare Vardy to Lineker etc

I think you'll find Gordon Banks won a World Cup winners medal and was generally regarded as the best goalkeeper in the world for many years.

In many ways we have to use Cambiasso's performances last season as a yard stick, because without him we would almost certainly gone down. We have to attract his calibre of replacement to progress. I doubt we will be able to replace his on field management though.

Romeu would be my first choice probably.

Huddlestone, however, is the most 'similar' type of player that comes to mind...

I wouldn't. He was dreadful for Hull last season.

Agreed - but the season before he was excellent, he is English and the most 'similar' player i can think of.

Under Pearson, I liked these signings as I knew Pearson always got players playing to their best - I just hope Ranieri is the same.

Appear to be 2 MLS clubs plus Besitas competeing with the West Ham and perhaps Sunderland and Villa for his signature ... time to go and join Pirlo and Slippy Steve, Esteban!! ... <laugh>
