I don't think some people realise that defending someone simply because of their skin colour is in itself racist.
Black women should be allowed in the media. And not just dancing and singing. Reading the news, reporting on football and presenting late night educational documentaries. The more the better, in my opinion.
They are always on about quotas, representing the diversity of the population etc…So with 3% of the population being black that would mean 1.5% of them being black women. Fair?
The BAME population in the UK is roughly 18% (though many media organisations operate out of London, where it's 40%).
What is regarded fair is entirely dependent on the politics at the time. Both you and I are probably (?) in the last third of our lives and so unlikely to influence that and irrelevant to it. We just have to accept it or live in denial.
My daughters have a friend who was male for 17 years, but is now apparently a woman and regarded as so officially for the last 7 years. And to be fair, she's passable from a distance being of East Asian heritage, but I'm not sure how the big-framed Nordic and Anglo ones see themselves. I'll never understand it, but accept it, as my time, or chance, of my opinion mattering is long past.
The last time I listened to radio humberside, probably 35 years ago, Martin Kelner was presenting. No idea if he was black or a woman.
How many black commentators in Norway? Any black females commenting on the skiing.
Things are ridiculous, there was some bloke in the Independen the other day reckoning getting on for 60 of football fans are in favour of compulsory courses in racism, diversity and sexism for every owner, manager, coach, player and employee of football clubs. Laughable as football is the biggest meritocracy where colour does not matter and ability is the only thing that matters. Hence black players are vastly over represented as a proportion of the population. No needs for quotas tgere unless you think that white players should be representative of their proportion of the population. The same bloke reckoned a similar proportion of fans were in favour of equal pay for women players. God knows which football fans they spoke to.
Another example of deftness. After the Lionesses won the Euros some right on journalist said she could not celebrate because there were no black players in the team. Perhaps she would have preferred an inferior black player or two replacing the first choice players and therefore diminishing their chances of success in the name of diversity?
You were talking about Alex Scott, who's mixed race, so falls into the 18% and not the 3%.
There are unfortunately still people about who think people shouldn’t be employed purely because they’re women so these things are not only justified and entirely reasonable but also necessary.
That's definitely true of players, but when it comes to managers/coaches, they're massively unrepresented.

I'm sure they will use it as part of their next GE push and people that don't take any notice if the news 99% if the time will swallow it .

I agree, it was terrible. As I understand it Musk offered the interview unexpectedly and at the last minute, sort of now or never job. The lad who did it might not have been BBC's preferred choice and he may have had little time to prepare. If this is the case it's tough to criticise him too much, but I'd criticise BBC for allowing themselves to be steamrollered into it. Musk's a canny operator, he'd see off many a seasoned interviewer.
