Who said black people shouldn’t appear? Te only objections are to those who are appointed for that reason rather than ability. No one ever complained about McDonald or Moira Stewart for example. There are white women and men who get jobs because of box ticking as well.
Don’t rate Burnsy that highly as a sports commentator but he is very good on his morning show. He has a good radio voice, unlike Gollum whose voice would be suited to silent movies.
How did a thread about Burnsy getting the boot end up getting hijacked by people setting out all their reasons why black people or women shouldn't appear on radio or TV? And don't get them started on black women in the media. Dave Burns is an excellent radio presenter, BBC local radio is a complete mess now, pay your TV licence because we can't afford to lose the best public broadcaster in the world. That is all.
Black women should be allowed in the media. And not just dancing and singing. Reading the news, reporting on football and presenting late night educational documentaries. The more the better, in my opinion.
They are always on about quotas, representing the diversity of the population etc…So with 3% of the population being black that would mean 1.5% of them being black women. Fair?

What is regarded fair is entirely dependent on the politics at the time. Both you and I are probably (?) in the last third of our lives and so unlikely to influence that and irrelevant to it. We just have to accept it or live in denial.
My daughters have a friend who was male for 17 years, but is now apparently a woman and regarded as so officially for the last 7 years. And to be fair, she's passable from a distance being of East Asian heritage, but I'm not sure how the big-framed Nordic and Anglo ones see themselves. I'll never understand it, but accept it, as my time, or chance, of my opinion mattering is long past.
The last time I listened to radio humberside, probably 35 years ago, Martin Kelner was presenting. No idea if he was black or a woman.
The BAME population in the UK is roughly 18% (though many media organisations operate out of London, where it's 40%).
The black population is 3%. We are talking blacks here.
How many black commentators in Norway? Any black females commenting on the skiing.
Things are ridiculous, there was some bloke in the Independen the other day reckoning getting on for 60 of football fans are in favour of compulsory courses in racism, diversity and sexism for every owner, manager, coach, player and employee of football clubs. Laughable as football is the biggest meritocracy where colour does not matter and ability is the only thing that matters. Hence black players are vastly over represented as a proportion of the population. No needs for quotas tgere unless you think that white players should be representative of their proportion of the population. The same bloke reckoned a similar proportion of fans were in favour of equal pay for women players. God knows which football fans they spoke to.
Another example of deftness. After the Lionesses won the Euros some right on journalist said she could not celebrate because there were no black players in the team. Perhaps she would have preferred an inferior black player or two replacing the first choice players and therefore diminishing their chances of success in the name of diversity?

Couldn't have put it better myself Dennis .The other point is that that bandwagon was built, and is being advertised, by other sections of the media that are doing the Govt’s bidding by convincing some people that the BBC is a bad thing and we’re all struggling financially because Gary Lineker gets paid a lot, rather than due to Govt policy etc.
Some people are easily manipulated and are happy to find a thing or an organisation to blame. Better to attack the BBC than policy.
It’s the same with people (not necessarily on here) who attack the RNLI for saving peoples lives if those people are the wrong colour, because they’re also why we’re poorer, despite there being less people trying to get into this country than there was 20 years ago and the problem actually being how slow the Home Office process claims.
Couldn't have put it better myself Dennis .
Less than half the amount trying to get here than there was 20 years ago I believe .
I'm sure they will use it as part of their next GE push and people that don't take any notice if the news 99% if the time will swallow it .
Memo to self,Dame Diana Johnson just said in the House Of Commons that only one presenter has been kept on, I don’t bet but just going to put my house on Mr Smiley
Memo to self,
Brick up your spare bedroom.

I agree, it was terrible. As I understand it Musk offered the interview unexpectedly and at the last minute, sort of now or never job. The lad who did it might not have been BBC's preferred choice and he may have had little time to prepare. If this is the case it's tough to criticise him too much, but I'd criticise BBC for allowing themselves to be steamrollered into it. Musk's a canny operator, he'd see off many a seasoned interviewer. The best...... Go watch the recent BBC interview with Elon musk and then try to defend them as the best. If thats the quality of journalists that our license fee goes towards then they really are in trouble.
