I must admit I like a bit of Plato and Confucius. Two sayings that stick out for me.

'Only the dead have seen the end of war.'

One thing that struck me the most was in Plato's 'The Cave'. He says that we are just people in a cave, and life is a series of projections on the wall. The puppets making these projections are behind us, and the light is behind them. In order to see the world as it really is, we must find our way out of the cave. But he also said that if someone were to come into the cave from the light to rescue us, we'd try to kill them. The guy basically predicted Jesus.
