The two Birmingham results stick in memory, if we could've held on we would be a point inside the playoffs :( typical charlton, also Sheffield Weds game at home, 5 minutes from 3 points, end up with none... Nevertheless, a great effort from the boys
 
Funny game. The first half had me contemplating not returning as it was just boring with neither side looking bothered. However, continued to put the pub to the back of my mind and hang around. Thankfully turned out to be the right decision as it turned in to the kermo show. The first goal was pure class, watched the ball arrive and couldn't have hit it sweeter. His chip which hit the bar was genius. And his general hold up play was magnificent. Even seemed to go wide left at one point with harriott moving up top.

A good end to what has to be deemed a successful season. Now it's time to change clubs and support Brighton.
 
Ratings:

Button - 6. Nothing to do.
Solly - 8. Great assist and some great tackles
Morro- 5. Bad mistake, but not helped by the turf.
Dervite - 7. Solid
Wiggins - N/A. Wilson - 5. Error led to goal.
Pritchard - 6. Busy but few poor crosses.
Gower - 6.5. Best player in first half, but game passed him by in 2nd.
Jackson - 7.5. Good goal and made a few important tackles in the first half.
Harriott- 6. Enthusiastic but not his day. A lot of groans from the crowd, but thought that was unfair. Should encourage him to continue being direct, that's his style.
Obika - 7. Dropped off well and displayed a few nice lay offs/touches.
Kermo - 9. MOM. Only loses a point because of the first half. Easily his best 45 mins for us.
 
I thought Obika also had a good 45 minutes, looked a decent player. I'd rather get another season out of Hughes than go for Gower though. A game of two halves- the first half looked like a nailed-on 0-0, but great improvement in the second and we could have won by more in the end. Good end to a satisfying season.

But has he got the right attitude? Remember he has come into the team now we are confident. His two earlier cameos when we were struggling were woeful.

Not much evidence to go on, so we have to trust the Good Doctor's judgment on this one. If he thinks he can make a real Charlton player out of him, then fair enough.
 
This was his first full game for ages, and he improved as the game went on, so there may well be a decent player in there. Spurs gave him a contact extension of a year just before he joined us, in other words they will want a few bob for him, maybe too much for us.

Sorry to see the Posh go down. They often played bright attacking football. The transfer of Boyd was enough to see them down and Hull up in a table of tight margins.

Gayle would be good. Young, East Londoner, has been improving each season, not spinning his wheels like Obika. Seems more the Charlton type. BUT, he would cost best part of a million. Not sure what Spurs want for Obika. After that it all depends on their wage demands.

Don't know anything about Tomlin, but he would fill that LM spot, allowing Harriott more time to develop and play RM or striker too as required.
 
I'm too far away to pass comment of course and I guess it's immaterial now....but would we have made it without the Kermo and Wiggins injuries?
 
Excellent second half, Yan was fantastic, I was sorry to see Waggy come on seems to me it was CP giving him the chance to say goodbye, almost scored a goal to top his "farewell". Hope I am wrong, normally am if I start talking football. Thought it was telling that CP said "see you next season" in his emotional thankyou to the fans. Please clear up the financial side early and focus on team buildig.
 
Agree with most of the comments. I was very close to going home at half time as the first half was outstandingly bad. Glad I stayed. All four goals were things of beauty. Yann's first was sublime. CP very emotional as he addressed the crowd. Lots if warmth from the stands on a cold day. Brizzle as befitting their position were by far the worst team I've seen this season.

Not sure what we've learned that we didn't know already: we are very dependant on our two best fullbacks and I hope we were not waving either if them farewell today; I'm assuming its Ta Ta to Stephens, Hollands and Green; Morro gets shakier by the game sadly and Wilson has lost whatever it was that someone thought he had. We're not a bad side when we get it down and play. A fire sale away from a car crash though. Obika looked quite good, Gower was neat and tidy but not any better than hughes. All done for another year. Slightly more of a feel good factor than we could have dared to hope for two months ago.

No, we would have needed another point because Leicester have far better GD.

There are many times during the season when we let slip those four points. Poor use, or non-use, of substitutes played a part. Poor choices of loan player.

But then every team in that division could tell similar "if onlys". I am more than happy with what has been achieved.

It was an exciting league to be in. Derby finished 10th, Eight points less and they would have been relegated. Ipswich finished 14th. Three more wins and they would have been in the play-offs. And so on ...

Quite possibly, but there were many clubs with far worse injury problems. We lead a charmed life last season and it hasn't been too bad this season. You cannot count players like Jackson, Fuller and Haynes being out because we took a calculated risk signing them. If they weren't injury prone they wouldn't be with us in the first place.

That's a bitchy remark :( Wilson had a long run of matches when he was consistently one of our best five players. Too many to have been just a lucky streak.

He may have lost it, but he certainly had it not that long ago. Better at RM than Pritchard. Maybe that is what has pissed him off.

Yes, things are so tight in this division that losing even one "star" could see us relegated and signing one could get us into the play-offs. Look at the Boyd effect on Peterboro' and Hull.
 
The biggest disappointment must be the decline in form of Lawrie Wilson. Remember his lung-bursting runs up and down that right wing? He would keep it up for 90 minutes as well, not to mention the quality crosses he put over. He doesn't look the same player at all now.
