Brian's Predictions League 2020/21

League Table

Here is our first league table of the season with Seb taking over where his brother left off last season. Overall it was difficult work tipping on a completely new set of teams. Most of us overestimated Derby and Cardiff. Congratulations to Seb for getting the first 100+ score of the season and to Matej for continuing the good work from last season. Condolences to Andy for losing the first big family battle ! Many thanks to Mrs. Andy and Mrs. Fez for joining us on here. In between Seb and Matej I crop up, and this may be a confusing score. The reason for this is that I have brought in a temporary change to the scoring - with only 18 in our league it has become too easy to get the unique scoreline bonus, and so I have downgraded this to 10 points instead of 20 (from 40 to 20 in the case of Watford matches and jokers). I was able to do this because no other posters would have been disadvantaged by it. This is only a temporary measure as there may well be some late additions to our number with regulars such as Zen and Akureyrar, and also Brian's son Simon. As soon as the numbers grow to over 20 again I will revert back to the normal scoring of 20 for unique scorelines. Mathematically this makes sense as with a smaller group getting unique scorelines becomes proportionally easier.​

As I said to all my friends for most of last season re WFC's situation, 'Just biding our time'. Still, if my performance makes everyone else better off, I'll accept it.

Highest score of the round went to NZ this week for correctly predicting the Horns 0-0 draw. An impressive 131 forced him up into third place. with the other hundred plus scores going to Fez and myself. Andy did well in getting the families highest score of the week - but Seb is still shading that battle. Simon has joined us to make us up to 19 which is great. The Horns really are doing it the minimalist way with a 1-0 at home and 0-0 away - only NZ and myself have actually predicted a Watford scoreline correctly so far which explains the look of our table at the moment. For a week we have to tolerate Luton being above us in the league for the first time since people were walking around in flares - but it is only for a week and then normality will restore itself :emoticon-0165-muscl​

​
Those at the top from last week slipped on a few banana skins this round and, together with no less than 7 scoring over the hundred mark this week it has all become very close again. The top of the table looks like something from last season with Matej leading the table followed by Frenchie. I was very unceremoniously removed from the top position from last week <wah> Apart from Matej, Andy's family is now grouped together. Pride of place went to Matej getting 127 this week with Frenchie getting the second highest with 125.​

After dutifully waiting for the end of the Brentford v Preston game before putting up the new table, nobody actually scored anything on it - so the wait was in vain. Our last round before the International break saw Hackney moving into the lead with the round's highest score of 132. Elsewhere I shamed myself by picking up 50 points (the joker) on Luton - thus making up an undeserved 111 to move into second. NZHorn kept it all very international at the top with 110, moving into fourth behind Frenchie. Fez is locked together with Mrs Fez on 6th and 7th and Andy has moved into second in their family duel. We now have a two week break of meaningless international football.​

It get’s worse. I only improve because someone goes AWOL. How can anyone get 132 points from that lot of results? Weird. I repeat my request. Anyone who predicts a Wfc loss, and is correct, should have their points deducted!
