Our news has said that many of our companies have their main EU office and other operations in the UK and that leave would mean that they would have to build a new 2nd office as well as other facilities in Europe if you all left since they would still need their UK office and facilities as well as the new ones since they couldnt use the ones in the UK for their EU operations. They are saying that it would obviously decrease their profit margin as well as make expanding their UK footprint less desirable and may withdraw jobs and put them in their to be constructed EU operation. I would guess that its possibly a similar train of thought to what Siemens is thinking.

I think your news is talking nonsense.

They're wrong, even if we did leave we'd sign up to a free trade agreement and they wouldn't have to change anything.

So no one in England knows how to build a turbine?

What do you mean 'someone in England'?

Do you mean a big multinational company that originated in England or a big multinational company that operates in England - what's the difference?

'We' do not build turbines, companies do, and where they're from doesn't really matter as long as it improves our economy and employs people in England.

Unless you'd have the Government nationalise everything and have them build it? In which case, set a deadline for completion in 2100.

So if we did come out of the EU would every euro company f'ck off? I'd say no because we'd build the product ourselves! That's what I'm getting at!

You couldnt build every product yourselves. You are not large enough to do so. I imagine you have taken economics classes and it would take to long to explain if you haven't but the idea that you could build every product you need in a capitalist society is simply not possible.

I really dont know what you're getting at... are you saying that cos we're in the EU Siemens are allowed to build here at the detriment of loads of other UK turbine manufacturers and if we leave then they'll all come out of the woodwork? Siemens are building a factory to make turbines in Hull BECAUSE NO UK COMPANY WANTS TO DO IT.

Too! ( I took English ) no my point is people are using these companies from Europe as a scare tactic! If we needed turbines & the Germans wouldn't deal with us then we'd build our own! :emoticon-0148-yes:

We managed to build most of the world's ships at one time.

Now we don't make much but just wait until our army of media studies graduates is unleashed on the world.

If you want to only talk about one product out of the tens of thousands that you use then yes. You could build your own. If you are using this example and applying it to every product that you use, that you can simply build them all, then no you can not. At least not in the economic system that currently exists.

No what I'm saying no one should be thinking about Siemens walking away when voting!
