I may have missed it but when was this broadcast? Mid 90’s?

1994 this mate

They seem to have missed the rise of the internet (cable, fanzines - streaming, forums), but other than that...

Woulda been spooky voodoo **** if they foreseen the rise of streaming. But if you replace "Newcastles own cable service" with an "ESL streaming service" he's spot on.

Which is why you've seen all this crying from Sky. They couldn't give a flying **** about the integrity of the game.
They're just worried that the clubs are going to cut out the middleman.

True but nonetheless we need them on our side now.

There needs to be a revamp of the fit-and-proper-person test. It's no good having a test to assess whether someone can buy a club then letting them do whatever the **** they want with the club once they've passed the test and bought it.

It's like a roidhead in boxing fluking one piss-test and never testing them ever again.

The Allams at Hull passed the fit-and-proper-person test, and wanted to change the name to 'Hull Tigers' without consulting fans. Vincent Tan passed it, and changed Cardiff's colours from Blue to Red without consulting fans. Mike Ashley passed it. Abramovich, FSG, Kroenke, the Glazers etc. all passed it.

It's gash and useless. There needs to be an independent regulatory body that scrutinises every single thing these ****s do during their tenure as owners of a football club, down to the prawn sandwiches in the director's box, because they can't be trusted otherwise.

Or we can **** them off too, if there's going to be a big overhaul.
Just set things up with a Premier League Netflix equivalent and tell Murdoch to go **** himself.

I think we've got to be realistic personally.. I think we've got to kill the beast 1st and foremost and then try to enjoy what's left...I've spent 12 months wanting a takeover, but right now I couldn't give a **** I'll be happy with Mike ashley competing for 17th with the hope he might get a few windows right and we have the occasional flirt with the top end and Europe once ot twice again in my life

The big 6 are doing this to generate more money which will ultimately go to the players and the owners.

But could this begin the process of salary caps at clubs to bring football finances back in line?

Nufc are well setup for that.

I think it is realistic. They've gone too far and opened Pandora's Box.
Time to look at the whole thing and sort out some longstanding issues. Kill this kind of **** stone dead and make sure it doesn't come back.
If they want to Americanise the sport, then they can ****ing do it in America.

I agree, but we can forget it ever being a working man's sport again that's gone, boy it's the embers we're fighting for

I'm telling ya, if the yanks could get away with it, they'd build in 'fan participation' for arm chair viewers. 'Press the red button if you think it's a penalty. Press the yellow button if you think he should be sent off'.

They are looking to recoup their losses from Covid, screw the fans who want to go back to the stadiums, they don't matter anymore. TV is where the money is, make the game interactive so that the whole (subscription paying) family can get involved.
