Isn’t it 51 if we include the McGregor farce? Mayweather will go wherever he can sniff out money. If $100m was in the table to fight in Saudi he’d do it. One day he will lose because of chasing the $$$. Would not put it past him.
That wasn't an official fight but I also don't count the farce he had with the overhyped Irish pub fighter
Bob Arum's insights on the Ruiz - Joshua fight taking place in Saudi Arabia. Arum is a former Federal Prosecutor, so has some idea on how things might play out in a court of law. In an interview with Fight Hub TV, he offered the following. On Andy Ruiz not wanting to fight in Saudi Arabia and considering his own legal expertise and familiarity with the business of boxing, is there a way Ruiz can get out of the rematch clause: "Well, I’m not his lawyer...[but] I would argue I don’t have to go and fight him in Saudi Arabia because the State Department of my own country told me it’s too dangerous to go over. And no judge would make him do this. It’s like say, if you have a contract that you have to do the fight any place in the world and they wanna put it in a war zone, you don’t have to go and do it.” On if that argument is a viable legal remedy for Ruiz in this situation: "Yeah. Yeah, that has precedent.”
Okay this Saturday- Kovalev v Yarde. Has Kovalev slipped enough for Yarde to take this one? Personally, I think Kovalev will have far too much for Yarde. Even though hes not the fighter he was. That said, Yarde is a unknown as he has smashed his way through a lot of tomato cans. On his side is youth, athleticism and power.
Yeah DB, it's a huge step up for Yarde. I'm with you when it comes to my thinking on the fight. The Kovalev of yesteryear would probably tear Yarde apart. But since the Ward fights, he doesn't seem the same. But he's still a hand full. Like you said, Yarde has some serious power, not the experience at this level. And he's a bit on the clunky side. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it didn't come down to who has the best whiskers. Kova for me, and if Eddie reads this, I've got the hot mumble.
There's a bit of strange stuff going on concerning Oleksandr Usyk's first foray into the heavyweight scene. A site called BoxingScene published an article claiming Usyk is to fight a Russian gent called Andrey Fedosov in Chicago on October 12. This has since been confirmed by the Fedosov's manager Alex Vaysfeld. Fedosov has a record of 31- 3 - 0 with 25 KOs and is not ranked in the top 10 by anyone. When BoxingScene contacted Matchroom, a representative knew nothing about it.
I thought this fight had fallen through because Fedosov was recovering from an injury and wanted a comeback fight to ease him back in and was claiming that October would be too soon a turnaround to take on Usyk
And it looks as though the Ruiz - Joshua fight is now a goer. The champ has been slung an extra chunk of cash. Roll on December 7. On another front, GGG is now on the Matchroom books. He joins the other top middleweights Demetrius Andrade and Billy Joe Saunders on Eddie's team.
In the world of boxing, a lot of very good fighters don't get the credit they rightly deserve, especially those who dwell in the lower weight divisions. The media tends to take more interest in the heavier weighted classes where the power resides, which is a bit of a shame. Tonight in Japan a gent named Kosei Tanaka makes just the second defence of the WBO Flyweight Title. That might not sound like too much of a reason to want to tune in, but he appears to be someone special. This will be only be bout 14 of his career. That in itself is impressive, but what held up against the fact that Tanaka won the WBO Minimumweight Title at his fifth outing, and went on to take the WBO Light Flyweight Title before winning the Flyweight Title, he starts to look an outstanding boxer. I hope I can get some film of his bout with the number 1 ranked Jonathan Gonzalez.
Did you see the fight Cyc? I saw it on one of my dodgy sites. I will never slag anyone off for getting in a ring , but Yarde was absolutely dire. Ive seen more head movement from a figure 11 target. Kovalev was there for the taking, yet apart from round 8 Yarde showed nothing.
It was a dire effort by Yarde DB, but he copped a severe pounding. He seriously needs to leave his trainer. Under instruction from Tunde Ajayi, Yarde had no sparring leading up to the fight. Andre Ward in commentary was quite scathing about it, he said it's like a champion cyclist who trains without getting on a bike. Hats off to the old bloke though, even at 36, Kovalev is still force in the ring. The fight for anyone who hasn't seen it.
A big difference in physique between Loma and Campbell. And Campbell has a 7 inch reach advantage as well. I can't wait for the weekend.
Punching down on Loma is going to be a massive disadvantage. It's not like Campbell wasnt up against it already. But Campbell is a good kid and will do better than Crolla.
In October Robbie Davies will fight Lewis Ritson in an eliminator for the WBA Super Lightweight Title. The winner will become the mandatory challenger to the power punching Regis Prograis. I really wasn't all that interested in the fight, until I saw the presser. I like the heat, so I'll be into it now. Skip to 14:45.
Like most fans, I'm looking forward to seeing Lomachenko go around this weekend. He's something else. But as much as I'll enjoy his bout with Luke Campbell, I can't wait to see the clash between Hughie Fury and Alexander Povetkin. The Russian who will turn 40 a couple of days after the bout, goes into the fight at 8-13 while Fury is 7-4. Hughie has sort of fallen a bit short of expectations, but seems to be making slow progress. His dad is trying to convince us all the his son is now starting to put more sting into his punches now, but even if he more heavier handed, Povetkin should still have the power. I'm Fury can stay away and maybe nab a points win, but I fear for him. I wish him all the best, but for mine, the 7-4 is a bit too short.
I was supposed to be going this weekend but plans changed and I can't make it. Am gutted. I don't know if we'll see Lomachenkco over here again so would have loved to have been there for it
